About the Role
The organization seeks a Senior Associate-calibre lawyer to lead its legal function. This hands-on position involves managing deals from term sheet to close, handling fund and portfolio matters, and serving as the primary legal advisor to the investment team. The role emphasizes autonomy and requires working directly with portfolio managers, founders, and external counsel while leveraging AI-powered legal tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end deal management including term sheets, investment agreements, SHAs, and closing documentation
- Provide legal guidance on investments, follow-on rounds, divestments, and portfolio actions
- Handle portfolio company transactions including shareholder resolutions and restructurings
- Assist with fund documentation for new and ongoing funds
- Operate independently while engaging external counsel strategically
- Use AI and technology tools to enhance drafting, review, and research
Required Qualifications
- 5–8 years in venture capital, private equity, or M&A law
- Senior Associate experience at top-tier or specialist firms
- Strong transaction management and drafting capabilities
- Commercial, solutions-oriented mindset
- Genuine interest in startups and VC ecosystems
- Comfort with AI-powered legal tools
- Admission to practice in Australia with work authorization
- Fund management exposure preferred but optional
