Variance Ventures is a venture studio. We don't write checks and wait — we build companies from the inside, supplying capital, operating infrastructure, and a founding team so that operators can spend their time on the product instead of the scaffolding.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for an Entrepreneur in Residence to build the next company out of the studio.
You'll join Variance to develop, validate, and launch a new venture, with our capital, tooling, operating support, and network behind you — and real ownership of what you build.
The first 90 days are for exploration: pressure-test theses, talk to customers, build something real, and kill what doesn't hold up. From there, we commit resources to the concept that's working and you lead it as founder and CEO. Equity, salary, and structure are set at the point of commitment.
We're looking for someone who already has conviction about a market. If you need us to hand you the idea, this isn't the role.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Develop and stress-test venture concepts against clear theses
- Run customer discovery and validate demand before writing much code
- Build prototypes fast — you should be dangerous in at least one of code, design, or go-to-market
- Kill your own ideas when the evidence says to, and start again
- Make the investment case internally for the concept that earns it
- Recruit and lead the founding team once we commit
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- You've founded a company or led a 0-to-1 product from blank page to paying customers
- Demonstrated ability to build and ship with a very small team, or alone
- Fluency with AI tooling in a real production context, not as a talking point
- A defensible point of view on a market you want to attack
- Comfort with ambiguity, short runways, and public failure
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior exits, EIR roles, or venture studio experience
- Deep domain expertise in a specific industry
- Track record raising outside capital
- Something you've already been quietly working on
COMPENSATION AND STRUCTURE
Exploration phase: $80,000–$100,000 annualized
At commitment: base steps up and you take significant founder-level equity in the company that spins out
Budget for prototyping, contractors, and tooling
Fully remote within the US, with periodic team gatherings
