Sputnik ATX
Austin-based venture capital firm and accelerator investing at pre-seed in founders outside Silicon Valley, combining a $100,000 SAFE investment with training and mentoring.
Sputnik ATX is a venture capital firm and startup accelerator based in Austin, Texas. It invests at the earliest stages - pre-seed and early-stage - backing founders building companies outside Silicon Valley. Investments are made via SAFE note (a simple agreement for future equity, under which shares are priced at a later financing round): each participating company receives $100,000, with up to $400,000 in additional investment options.
The firm operates a structured accelerator programme alongside its investing activity. The programme pairs that capital with hands-on training, mentoring and a founder community, with particular emphasis on sales training, traction building and practical go-to-market support intended to help companies move from zero to one and reach product-market fit. The terms are founder-friendly by design: Sputnik ATX does not take a board seat and does not charge fees, positioning itself to invest before most institutional investors enter the round.
Sputnik ATX has invested in more than 150 founders to date. Of those founders, 51 per cent come from underrepresented groups - a portfolio pattern the firm treats as a deliberate focus rather than an incidental outcome. Its stated thesis concentrates on bold early-stage founders, with a geographic emphasis on startups located beyond the established coastal technology hubs.
