SBXi
SBXi is an early-stage fund investing $10,000 to $1 million in MIT alumni-founded companies across all sectors, via SAFE notes and matched term sheets.
SBXi is an early-stage investment fund established to give founders from the MIT alumni community access to early capital and a defined route to funding. It backs ambitious companies across any sector, with no restriction to a single market or technical domain. Deployment runs from $10,000 to $1 million per company, spanning pre-seed to seed.
Capital is offered through two instruments. Eligible MIT alumni founders can receive $10,000 to $100,000 via SAFE notes (simple agreements for future equity, which convert into shares at a later priced round) under a streamlined application and review process designed to return a decision to eligible applicants. Larger cheques of $100,000 to $1 million are deployed as matched term sheet investments, where SBXi invests alongside a qualifying term sheet from another investor.
The fund is supported by eight backing firms: Accel, Polaris Partners, GETTYLAB, General Catalyst, Pillar, Danaher, Underscore VC and Glasswing Ventures. Beyond capital, SBXi provides founder support through networking and community-building, with exposure to investors, customers, mentors and fellow founders; event participation is left optional. The stated approach is transparent, efficient and fair, with an emphasis on a clear and predictable review process.
SBXi operates within the MIT community in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
