We are looking for an Investment Manager based in Japan to support our investment activities and strengthen connections between Japan and Gobi’s broader Asian network.

This is a broad, hands-on role covering investment sourcing, research, cross-border business development, portfolio company support and investor relations. You will work closely with Gobi’s global investment teams, founders, investors and strategic partners across Asia.

What you will do

Investment & Deal Support

  • Research and identify promising Japanese startups and investment opportunities.
  • Support investment evaluation through financial analysis, market research and company analysis.
  • Prepare investment materials, presentations and internal reports.
  • Support due diligence and investment processes.

Cross-Border Business Development

  • Connect Japanese companies and Gobi portfolio companies with business opportunities across Asia.
  • Facilitate introductions and partnerships across Gobi’s regional network.
  • Support cross-border projects, events and strategic initiatives.

Portfolio & Investor Support

  • Support Gobi portfolio companies with market access, partnerships and introductions in Japan and Asia.
  • Support relationships with Japanese LPs, institutional investors and other strategic partners.
  • Prepare investor materials, reports and communications.
  • Coordinate meetings, events and activities involving Japanese and global stakeholders.

Team & Market Development

  • Build relationships with founders, investors, corporates, advisors and other ecosystem players in Japan.
  • Track developments across Japan’s startup, technology and investment ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with Gobi teams across ASEAN, China, South Asia and other markets.
  • Take ownership of projects and contribute to improving how we operate in Japan.

What we are looking for

Required

  • Business-level proficiency in Japanese and English.
  • Basic understanding of finance, financial analysis and investment concepts.
  • Strong interest in Japan, Asia and the startup ecosystem.
  • Strong communication, research and analytical skills.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working independently in a lean, fast-paced environment.
  • Curious, proactive and willing to take ownership beyond a defined job scope.

Preferred

  • 1–3 years of experience in VC, PE, investment banking, consulting, corporate investment or a related field. Relevant internships are also considered.
  • Experience living or working in Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East or other Asian markets.
  • Exposure to the Japanese startup, investment or corporate ecosystem.
