About the Role
Blackbird backs the most ambitious founders in Australia and New Zealand from their earliest days. We have been doing it since 2012, and the portfolio now includes Canva, SafetyCulture, Culture Amp, Zoox and Halter. We manage over A$10B in assets and we recently raised Australia and New Zealand’s largest ever venture capital fund of A$1.05B.

Our investor base has grown with us, from Australian family offices and institutions to global endowments, sovereign wealth funds, funds-of-funds and pensions across the US, Europe and Asia. Those investors are sophisticated, they are diligent, and they expect and deserve world-class reporting and insights.

You will own the data, materials and processes that shape how several hundred investors understand Blackbird's performance.

This is not a coordination role. You will build the numbers behind the story, quarterly performance and portfolio reporting, fund-level analysis, benchmarking against our peer set, and then work out how to frame them so an investor understands not just what happened but why it matters. You will get the analysis right first, then get the narrative right.

You will work directly with the Head of Investor Relations, our Partners and our operations and investment teams, and over time you will take on direct contact with investors yourself. It is a rare seat: full visibility into how a venture firm actually performs, how capital gets raised, and how the best technology companies in the region are funded and built.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the data. Maintain investor and fund data, and make sure every figure that leaves the building reconciles to its source of truth. You will own transforming fund and portfolio data for due diligence questionnaires and ad-hoc investor requests, and you will be the person who notices when something does not look right.
  • Do the analysis. Build the fund-level analysis that sits behind our investor materials: performance attribution, portfolio construction, company updates and how each vintage is tracking against plan. You must be confident to be pressure tested on every claim before it goes in front of an investor, so nothing we put in a deck is indefensible.
  • Build the materials. Produce the quarterly reports, investor presentations and always-on data room materials our investors rely on, from first outline to final version. Turn various sources of information and context into a coherent and compelling asset, which you will improve on over time as you begin to understand investor preferences and concerns. Own version control, consistency and quality across everything the IR team produces.
  • Make it faster next time. Use AI, systems and better processes to compress the time between a question being asked and an accurate answer landing. We want someone who is genuinely bothered by inefficient manual tasks and does something to fix it, without ever trading away accuracy.
  • Work across the firm. Partner with our operations, investments and community teams so information flows on time and intact. You will contribute to firm-level projects including capital raising, data migration and the implementation of new systems.

What We're Looking For
  • You can pull a dataset apart. You can take messy, unstructured numbers, ask the right questions, gain an understanding, sanity-check them, reconcile them against another source and find the small error everyone else missed.
  • You are forensic. Everything you produce is checked. You have a system for it, and you would rather be the person who caught the mistake than the person who explains it afterwards.
  • You can build something that looks good and reads well. A clear, well-structured deck or report, built to tell Blackbird’s story.
  • You have real financial literacy. You understand investment concepts and you are curious about what actually drives venture returns, and why that is attractive in an investor’s portfolio.
  • You can hold several things at once. Every day brings competing requests against real deadlines. You manage them without dropping quality and without needing to be chased.
  • You solve problems rather than escalate them. You notice when something is wrong, and you have the confidence to propose and execute a fix.
  • You use AI to make a difference. We expect you to be fast because you use these tools well. We can’t tolerate AI slop, and everything that goes out carries your judgment, not a model's.
  • You have a hospitality mindset. We run investor relations on the principle of Enlightened Hospitality. We muck in together, and we are collectively obsessed with the experience we give our founders and our investors. You should be too.
  • You want a front row seat in the largest venture fund in ANZ. You are genuinely interested in technology and the companies being built here.

Position Requirements
Your background matters less to us than what you can do. This role has worked brilliantly for people from investment banking, sales, management consulting, fund accounting, audit, fund operations and data roles, and we would encourage anyone with a strong analytical track record to apply.

What we do need:
  • Two or more years in a role where analytical accuracy was the point, not a nice-to-have
  • Demonstrable experience producing polished material for a demanding audience, whether that is investors, clients, a board or an audit committee
  • Comfort working in spreadsheets and data tools at a level beyond the basics
  • Full-time, based in our Surry Hills office
Helpful but not required:
  • Exposure to fund structures, private capital or LP dynamics
  • Familiarity with venture performance metrics such as TVPI, DPI and IRR, and how they behave across a fund's life
  • Experience preparing material for institutional investors, boards or investment committees
  • Experience with systems implementation or data migration
Shortlisted candidates will work through a short case study, replicating the same work you would do in the role, and it matters more to us than your CV.
