About Main Sequence
It takes an unreasonable belief to achieve the impossible. This is what we invest in and create at Main Sequence.
Main Sequence (MSV) is Australia's leading deep tech venture capital firm. With over $1 billion under management across three funds, we back inventors building the industries that will define the next century — from quantum computing and synthetic biology to climate tech, space, and AI. We operate at the intersection of frontier science and venture-scale ambition, and we're now raising Fund 4.
The role opportunity
As Investor Relations Manager, you'll be the engine room behind Main Sequence's investor relationships both existing and prospective LPs. This is a foundational, high-trust support role: you'll make sure our Partners walk into every investor conversation fully prepared, that no relationship falls through the cracks, and that the critical groundwork of great investor relations: research, materials, scheduling, CRM, follow-up gets done to a best in class standard.
At a fund our size, investors expect to talk to the Partners directly, and that won't change. What will change is everything that happens around those conversations: today, that groundwork is being pieced together by our partners and COO. This role exists to take ownership of this element of our investor relationships moving forward. You will be qualifying interest, lining up the right meetings, keeping materials sharp and current, and freeing the Partners to spend their time only on genuinely engaged, well-prepared conversations.
You're the connective tissue between the Partners, prospective and existing LPs, and Main Sequence's own middle and back office.
This role is based in Sydney or Melbourne
In this role, you'll work on
- The investor coverage model. Building and executing a tailored engagement plan for prospective and existing LPs, and proactively researching new prospects. From mapping the right family offices in a target market to identifying pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and wealth managers we should be building relationships with.
- Proactive outreach & qualification. Reaching out on the Partners' behalf, thinking strategically about where Partners are in the world and the relationships that can be developed both locally and in that region. Qualifying interest before looping in a Partner, so their time is spent only on well-prepared, engaged conversations. Ahead of every Partner trip, you're proactively lining up investor meetings, working toward the Partners being in front of high-impact investors throughout the year
- The story. Ensuring Main Sequence's performance and differentiation shines through our materials with a compelling narrative working with the team to customize decks and materials for a specific audience or meeting, and tailoring presentations for different audiences (international LPs need the "why Australia" frame; domestic LPs need conviction and performance). Making sure the Partners always have the right materials in hand.
- The event calendar. Planning well ahead for conferences like SuperReturn, our AGMs, roadshows, and webinars. Securing the right meetings, managing Partner schedules, capturing notes, and making sure follow-up happens every time.
- Investor communications. Quarterly updates, DDQ responses, briefing notes. Clear, candid, on brand the kind of reporting that makes LPs feel informed, and the kind of follow-up email that lands without anyone having to chase it.
- The data room and CRM. Owning Main Sequence's data room end-to-end, keeping it continuously and accurately up to date, and liaising with our finance team as needed. Logging every interaction with key insights, and tracking relationships, tasks, and next steps in the CRM.
Requirements
About you
You're a diligent, high-velocity learner with real consulting instincts, the kind of person who keeps a client or investor-facing team's engine running smoothly, even when no one's watching. You're comfortable being the connective tissue, and you take real satisfaction in the behind-the-scenes excellence that ensures our partners have the tools to excel in conversations.
You're also a self-starter and a strong stakeholder manager: confident enough to chase senior stakeholders including our Partners for what you need, set your own deadlines, and keep momentum without waiting to be told what's next.
You're energised by the idea of working on a genuinely unique fund at an interesting moment for Australian deep tech.
You'll bring
- A track record in a consulting, sales-ops, GTM-enablement, or similar operational role keeping materials, CRM, and meeting logistics running smoothly for a client or investor-facing team.
- Strong research skills: you're comfortable getting up to speed on a new market or audience from scratch (e.g. "who are the top family offices in this market?") and turning it into something actionable.
- The ability to build and customize polished materials quickly, working from existing templates and tailoring them for a specific audience or meeting.
- Strong writing skills: you can take a complex idea or thesis and make it land, and you close every loop with a sharp, on-brand follow-up.
- A confident, assertive follow-through style. You chase people (including senior stakeholders) for what you need, set deadlines, and don't let things stall waiting for someone else to notice.
- Genuine curiosity about deep tech and science-driven companies. You don't need to be a scientist, but you need to find this world exciting.
Nice-to-haves
- A consulting background where you honed your research skills plus the ability to produce client-ready collateral under time pressure.
- Prior exposure to venture capital or private markets (a genuine plus, not a requirement).
- An existing network in the Australian LP or global institutional investor community.
- Experience directly supporting a small, senior team or founder.
