Barayamal
First Nations-owned Australian charity founded in 2016, running founder accelerators, mentoring, education, funding and job platforms to grow Indigenous entrepreneurship.
Barayamal is a First Nations-owned and led Australian charity, established in 2016 and based in Gunnedah, New South Wales, on Kamilaroi Country. Its mandate is to grow Indigenous entrepreneurship and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through founder programs, resources and digital platforms. The organisation is grounded in Indigenous community values and positions entrepreneurship, technology and economic opportunity as routes to self-determination.
Its founder-facing activity follows the conventional venture pipeline structure. A pre-accelerator serves early-stage First Nations founders; an accelerator supports founders growing existing businesses; and a mentoring program and practical business education resources run alongside both. In parallel, Barayamal maintains a directory of grants and funding opportunities for First Nations founders, an Indigenous innovation visibility platform, and accountability, research and advocacy tools.
Two further platforms extend the model beyond company-building: a job-matching service connecting First Nations job seekers with employers, and the 3% Pledge, an initiative asking businesses and institutions to commit 3% and to back measurable action rather than symbolic commitments. Barayamal works with founders, allies and supporters on a community-driven, partnership-based basis.
For operators and investors in the Australian startup ecosystem, Barayamal represents pre-seed infrastructure rather than a fund: it supplies pipeline, education and market visibility at stages where capital is scarce. No external funding, team size or programme outcome metrics are disclosed.
