Head of Funding & Partnerships - The Venture Science Doctorate

Deep Science Ventures

London, England, United Kingdom Remote

Full time

Operations

Jan 22

The Venture Science Doctorate (VSD) is the world’s first venture creation focused PhD programme.

You will be responsible for attracting funding in order to be able to offer additional studentships on the programme, working primarily with governments and research agencies, philanthropies and corporates. Once companies are formed, you will be responsible for supporting these brand new companies with fundraising. Part time applicants welcome.

You will not be alone. You will be part of a tight knit founding team, including Claire Thorne, the former Director of Innovation at the University of Surrey, Dominic Falcao, one of the founders of Deep Science Ventures and Thane Campbell, responsible for building the programme to where it is today. You will be embedded in the wider DSV team and be able to draw on the relevant expertise of our dedicated sector and platform teams: more than 25 people specialised in science commercialisation in the fields of Therapeutics, Climate, Computation and Agriculture. There is already a significant pipeline of potential funders to build on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing strategy and materials - develop a funding strategy, and build on the base of the materials used to secure three successful funding agreements, signed with each of a government, a philanthropy and a corporate, and hone these so that they truly show the value of the VSD
  • Stakeholder relations - you will take on management of relationships with existing partners, ensuring that the team comes together to fulfil expectations and deliverables to those partners on time and to a high level of quality
  • Deal development - you will take on and expand our existing pipeline of possible funders: targeting government, corporates and philanthropies, cultivating relationships to meet the ambition of backing >50 candidates in the next 5 years
  • Portfolio fundraising - you will support companies arising from the programme to fundraise, making use of Deep Science Ventures’ existing investor network and expanding this where appropriate
