Grok Ventures

Grok invests in technology enabled companies and projects that will decarbonise our planet. Lowering emissions, removing carbon, generating awesome returns - that’s our focus. We back teams in markets we understand - predominantly Australia and New Zealand, Singapore, North America, and Europe. At our core, we believe: Technology is the biggest lever we have to decarbonise the economy. Seeding and scaling climate tech into climate infrastructure is going to require trillions of dollars in private capital. We consider this the biggest economic opportunity of our lifetime. The funding requirements of climate tech and infrastructure are unique – the capital and capability needs to be flexible, focused and fit-for-purpose. SOLVING THE CLIMATE CAPITAL STACK: There is a major funding gap in climate tech. We solve this by investing equity early from our Venture team and when companies hit defined milestones our Infrastructure team can provide flexible forms of non-dilutive financing. We’ve been providing flexible funding since 2016. Our team brings specialist experience building technology businesses, investing across venture, infrastructure and debt, as well as owning and operating renewable infrastructure. We deploy this expertise to help our portfolio companies scale.

Asterion Ventures

Capital for an economy that respects planetary limits. Some generations have built cathedrals. Some have navigated across oceans and expanded the frontiers of the known world. Others have had to rebuild war-torn continents. Our generation’s greatest challenge is equally immense: to create an economic system that respects the planet’s limits, and overcome the ecological crisis. If we are to rise to the challenge, we're going to have to innovate. In a radical way. This means taking risks - carefully considered, never unnecessary, ones. Having the courage to take the long view once again. Rewriting the rules of economic activity from the ground up, by standing alongside those who recognize that the greatest ambition of all lies in finding alternative means to create wealth. Our mission is to support the entrepreneurs who are repairing the world - from the very beginning of their journey, and with no time limit on our commitment. How? By bringing together a broad and diverse community of first-rate investors, and steering the flow of capital to where it is most likely to make a difference. One sector at a time, one start-up at a time, thereby increasing the number of tipping points. Allowing what will save us to thrive in the face of overwhelming adversity. So that we can finally initiate the systemwide transformational change which all of us are calling for, without always knowing where to start.

Africa Climate Ventures

Climate action is reshaping the global economy. Consumers are shifting towards climate-friendly products. Governments, aiming for net-zero, are shifting policy and committing billions of dollars to climate action. New technologies, processes, and energy sources are being developed, revolutionizing markets and redefining country resource endowments. Carbon markets are flourishing, fostering new business models and sectors, while facilitating large-scale deployment of low-carbon solutions. Africa is inherently well-positioned to tap into new climate-related business opportunitiesIntrinsic Competitiveness: Africa has abundant affordable land, untapped renewable energy potential, and a growing, increasingly skilled workforce, all of which are key cost drivers of climate action. Africa’s soils are also weathered and often acidic, offering significant opportunities for regenerative agriculture. Readily Available Opportunities To Tap Into Carbon Revenues: By prioritizing low-carbon business models, and incorporating carbon revenue, existing African businesses can drive affordability, amplify sustainable practices, and empower local communities, addressing climate change and providing global climate solutions. Potential For And Urgency Around Co-Benefits: Socio-economic challenges drive significant potential for co- benefits in Africa. Many actors with the capability, experience, and (community) connections to realise co-benefits have the opportunity to transform their business model to reduce dependency on philanthropic funding. ACV identifies opportunities to develop climate-smart businesses on the African continent following three key modelsTechnology Transfer to Africa: Identify leading global businesses with exciting carbon technologies, then bring them to Africa. Leverage our deep knowledge of Africa to develop appropriate entry strategies for applicable technologies, and build effective teams to launch businesses across the continent. Scaling Out Successes Across Africa: Identify home-grown African climate tech businesses that are gaining traction in the market in which they were developed and help them rapidly accelerate into new markets, leveraging local know-how and relationships, and augmenting typically overstretched management teams. Adding carbon revenues to business model: Identify businesses on the continent with under exploited carbon potential (e.g., electro moto manufacturers who are not monetizing their carbon). Provide skills and capabilties to add carbon revenues to these businesses, increasing profitabilty, adding value, and speeding growth. How We Work Sometimes we develop a concept ourselves and attract the right founder, sometimes we find a founder with a great idea. In all cases, we roll up our sleeves, iterate and improve on concepts, continuously inject capital as key milestones are met, and leverage our networks and expertise to give the business the best chance of success.

OnePlanetCapital

Our conviction is that investing into companies that reduce carbon, combat climate change and facilitate the economies transition to net zero is the opportunity of a lifetime. A number of factors have combined to create the right environment for the world’s transition to a green economy; Government regulation, changing corporate behaviour and consumer activism. The target portfolio of each investor will be 6-8 companies. The fund focuses on post revenue investments into early stage companies. In most cases businesses will already have a product or service in the market and will be making revenue from that product or service. I.e. the capital will be required for scale up. The majority of investments the Fund will make will be post seed and pre Series A. The overall investment size is likely to be between 500,000 GBP and 1000,000 GBP.
