About the Unit

Yara Growth Ventures is the corporate venture capital team for Yara International ASA (a world leading crop nutrition and agriculture company headquartered in Norway). The team invests in startups and in venture capital funds which sit at the intersection of science and technology in the food and agriculture industry. At Yara the mission is to responsibly feed the world and protect the planet. At Yara Growth Ventures, we don't lose sight of that. We are patient capital who, while always looking to make financially sound investments, invest in teams making a dent in agriculture. 

At Yara Growth Ventures, we focus on two industries: agriculture and clean hydrogen. Our investment approach is to fund startups and venture firms. Our startup investments are a way to work directly with entrepreneurs. Our fund investments are a way to scale our reach into local startup ecosystems by partnering with talented venture capitalists who have a robust network in our interest areas. 

This position reports to the VP Growth Ventures. Office location can be Oslo, London or Berlin.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting on venture capital investments end-to-end: from scouting of startups and initial screening through due diligence, deal negotiation, and closing
  • Analysis of startup investment targets with focus on science & technology, their scalability, and commercial relevance.
  • Supporting the preparation of investment proposals for the investment committee
  • Assist in the monitoring and supporting of portfolio companies after the investment
  • Build your own pipeline of potential investment targets by engaging with startup founders and investors on conferences, pitch events, and via desk research
  • Build and maintain a network of investors, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem players
  • Using your scientific acumen to prepare deep dive analyses of interesting areas of investment, industry trends or for competitive analyses
  • Preparation; managing and executing ESG and Impact fund process and requirement
  • Capable of utilizing and helping to build AI tooling within the team

Profile

  • Strong academic background (Master or PhD level) from a top tier institution in a discipline related to agriculture such as agronomy, crop protection and nutrition products, ag-tech etc.
  • Ideally 2-3 years of professional experience in agriculture/ag-tech related venture capital investing
  • Passion for early-stage investing. Relevant experience with entrepreneurship, startups or venture capital investment
  • Keen to explore new technologies and businesses that will positively impact sustainability of the agriculture and ammonia technologies
  • Delivering high quality work towards deadlines
  • Eager to listen and learn, build educated opinions, and take smart decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Both a team player but also a self-motivator who is able to work independently
  • Willingness to travel
