The Column Group

The Column Group is a life-sciences venture capital firm founded in 2007 by Peter Svennilson and headquartered in San Francisco. It invests from company formation onward, backing scientific ideas in life sciences and biotechnology as they are turned into companies and potential therapeutic programmes. Investment is paired with operational support, company-building experience, and access to scientific and industry expertise, with the firm working alongside scientific founders and biotech leaders on company development and leadership.

Coverage spans the full company lifecycle: company formation, early-stage platform development, single-asset discovery and development, and later-stage private and public investment. Technical focus areas include drug discovery, therapeutic development, platform development, and single-asset drug development.

Capital is deployed through several vehicles. A platform fund supports technology platforms from inception through exit, while an opportunity fund does the same for individual drug programmes and growing companies. TCG Labs-Soleil backs technology platforms, drug programmes, and portfolio companies. TCG Crossover provides crossover investment supporting companies across private and public stages.
