Civilization Ventures

Operator-led seed venture capital firm, founded in 2017, backing scientific founders in genomics, diagnostics, digital health, synthetic biology and cell and gene therapies.

Civilization Ventures is an operator-led venture capital firm founded in 2017 that backs scientific founders working on problems in biology and healthcare. The firm invests at seed stage across genomics, diagnostics, digital health, synthetic biology, gene and cell therapies, and regenerative medicine. Its investment platform began as a $1 million pilot seed fund in 2017 and partners with companies developing new approaches to prevention, personalised care, and regenerative medicine.

The firm describes its approach as "mentor capital" - supporting founders' potential rather than replacing them. In practice this means scientific diligence, operational guidance and access to the firm's network rather than hands-on management. The team is composed of life sciences executives, academics, operators and investors, a composition suited to evaluating technically complex science in areas where the gap between laboratory research and commercial application is often the binding constraint.

Alongside investing, Civilization Ventures runs a Fellowship programme that trains PhD scientists to become entrepreneurs, extending its involvement with scientific talent earlier than a conventional investment relationship. Portfolio outcomes to date include acquisitions and public listings.
