Help us find and work with the next generation of true outlier founders in Australia and New Zealand. Play a leadership role in shaping our investment strategy in Australia and New Zealand, working shoulder-to-shoulder with our Partners to back the most transformational founders from our corners of the world.
ABOUT US
Square Peg is a venture capital firm that helps founders shape the future. Founded in 2012 in Australia, Square Peg combines the best of a local partner with a global network of companies and backs founders early and repeatedly from three of technology's most exciting regions: Australia & New Zealand, Israel, and Southeast Asia. Five funds in, with US$4.3 billion in assets across its venture capital and public equities funds, Square Peg is the only investor that backed Canva, Airwallex, and Rokt, Australia’s three largest private tech startups, and is honoured to partner with Fiverr, Aidoc, and Tomorrow.io in Israel and Doctor Anywhere and Kredivo out of Singapore.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a SA or Principal, you'll be a senior member of our ANZ investment team - owning relationships with founders, driving investment opportunities from sourcing through to close, and contributing meaningfully to our investment thesis and strategy. You'll bring deep networks, sharp judgment, and genuine passion for the Australian and New Zealand startup ecosystem. This role is for someone who doesn't need to be taught the job - you've done this work before (or something very close to it) and are ready to operate with real autonomy.
On a typical day, you could be:
Meeting with founders to discuss investing in their businesses
Leading end-to-end due diligence on investment opportunities and presenting your conviction to the investment committee
Researching themes, emerging trends and ideas
Developing and sharing a point of view on sectors, market maps, and emerging opportunities across ANZ
Supporting portfolio companies with strategic advice, introductions, and hands-on problem-solving
Engaging with programs, people and leaders across the Aussie and Kiwi tech communities to nurture and grow the network
EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND
We're looking for someone who has been in or adjacent to the world of startups and venture - not someone who needs to learn the job from scratch. Strong candidates will typically have:
5-10+ years of experience in venture capital, growth equity, or a closely adjacent role (e.g. startup operator, founder, mid-market software PE)
Deep familiarity with the Australian and/or New Zealand tech ecosystem - you know the founders, the funds, and what's happening on the ground
A track record of sourcing, evaluating, and supporting technology investments
Genuine passion for startups - you're across what's happening in the ANZ market, you follow the ecosystem closely, and you're energised by working with early-stage founders
ATTRIBUTES & COMPETENCIES
Curiosity and a passion for technology
Deeply commercial and analytical, able to turn data into clear investment recommendations
AI fluency - you actively use AI tools in your workflow, have a clear point of view on how AI is changing venture and the startup landscape, and are excited to keep experimenting
Demonstrated proactivity and a bias to action with speedy execution
Ownership mindset and the ability to keep many balls in the air
Strategic, first principles thinking
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Strong existing networks across the ANZ tech and startup ecosystem
Collaborative and thrive in a high-performance culture of continuous improvement
