Role Overview
We are seeking an Investment Director to lead individual investments for RoboStrategy from sourcing through close. This is a senior role on a small investment team, created as our deal activity grows. You will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the rest of the investment team.
RoboStrategy runs a concentrated portfolio of leading robotics companies, primarily private and venture-backed, with the ability to hold public companies as well. Because each position is meaningful, every investment is underwritten with depth and conviction. You will own your deals end to end, take ongoing responsibility for the companies you bring in, and contribute to investment committee discussions across the portfolio.
What You’ll Do
- Source proprietary deal flow. Build relationships with founders, co-investors and technical experts across robotics, and bring a meaningful share of our pipeline yourself.
- Lead diligence. Run technical, commercial and financial diligence, drawing on your network for expert views, customer references and product evaluation, and form an independent view on each company.
- Make the investment case. Write the investment memo for each of your deals, present it to the investment committee, and defend your recommendation with rigor.
- Execute transactions. Negotiate terms and structure with counsel, and manage each of your deals through to close.
- Support the portfolio. Act as a trusted partner to the founders you back, providing hands-on help with strategy, execution and critical decisions, and opening doors to talent, follow-on capital and commercial partners. Serve as a board observer or director where appropriate.
- Build sector expertise. Develop deep knowledge of your areas of coverage, identify emerging categories, and represent RoboStrategy at conferences and across the founder community.
- Contribute to fund operations. Provide input to quarterly valuation reviews for your companies and keep track of relevant public comparables.
Core Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience, including at least 4 years investing at a venture, growth equity, crossover or corporate venture fund.
- Deep domain and deal experience in robotics, with investments you can speak to in detail, from sourcing and diligence through to outcome.
- A standout track record, with clear evidence of the deals you have personally sourced, won and helped build.
- A thorough understanding of the robotics landscape, including its technologies, business models and competitive dynamics. An engineering background or hands-on operating experience is a plus.
- A wide, established network across robotics founders, operators, researchers, co-investors and strategic investors, built over years in the sector and drawn on for sourcing, diligence and portfolio support.
- A body of robotics research, such as investment theses, sector maps or memos, that you can share.
- Board or board observer experience with venture-backed companies, and strong financial modeling and valuation skills.
- AI-native in how you work. You use AI daily across sourcing, research and diligence, and continually find new ways to apply it, consistent with our AI-first approach.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Thinks in power law terms, underwriting each investment for venture-scale returns and recognizing the rare companies capable of delivering them.
- Has backed robotics companies at an early stage and can assess candidly what went right and what did not.
- Pairs commercial judgment with a strong grasp of the technology, and evaluates product, market and business model with equal rigor.
- Tests their own theses hard, seeking out disconfirming evidence before committing capital.
- Independent, self-directed and comfortable owning outcomes on a lean team.
- Respected by founders, who seek out their views and would choose to work with them again.
- Shares our conviction that robotics will be one of the defining investment themes of the coming decades.
