Nordic Foodtech VC

Helsinki-based early-stage VC firm founded in 2019, investing in food and agriculture technology across the Nordics, Baltics and Europe through its €42m Fund I and €80m-target Fund II.

Nordic Foodtech VC is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Helsinki, Finland, founded in 2019. It invests in technology companies working on the food system - spanning agriculture and food production, alternative protein sources, aquaculture, agricultural inputs and food ingredients, and agricultural data and software. Its stated aim is to back technologies that make the food system more sustainable, resilient and healthy, with investments grounded in science- and engineering-based deep tech rather than consumer-facing food brands.

The firm manages two funds. Fund I, with a size of €42 million, made 18 investments across the Nordics and Baltics during an investment period running from the second quarter of 2020 through the fourth quarter of 2024. Fund II, with a target size of €80 million and a first close of €40 million, began its investment period in the second quarter of 2025 and invests more broadly across Europe.

Technical areas covered by the portfolio include fermentation-derived food ingredients, upcycled proteins, alternative protein sources, sustainable fertilisers, aquaculture and fish-farming technology, agricultural data systems, and food production technology. Environmental, social and governance (ESG) assessment is incorporated into the investment process, and the firm supports portfolio companies in setting sustainability goals. The investment approach targets underlying challenges in food and farming rather than single product categories.
