Hey there, my name is Pavel! I'm the founder of Murph Capital. After approximately seven years in VC, mostly in investor relations, I started a new media and community layer for the new generation of VCs and LPs.

Think something closer to TBPN or a16z New Media, but fully focused on capital allocators and VC fund builders. We've grown to approximately 15,000 people across Substack, LinkedIn, and X, with regular viral reach.

We're backed by Harmonic, Rings AI, and Cura, and we host private investor events with Sydecar and Rho.

I'm looking for a VC Research Lead who can turn raw data into sharp insights—someone who understands the venture ecosystem deeply, works fluently with statistics, and can co-author data-driven reports and essays that make our audience smarter.

Location: Remote.

Employment: 40 hours per month or full-time.

Salary: Depends on skill level, targeting the junior/middle range.

Responsibilities

Research & Analysis

Collect, clean, and analyze data on VC funds, LP trends, deal flow, fund performance, and the broader venture ecosystem.
Build benchmarks and comparative reports—fund sizes, deployment pace, return multiples, emerging manager performance, and similar topics.
Identify non-obvious patterns in public and proprietary datasets and turn them into compelling narratives.
Track key industry metrics over time and maintain a structured data library that can be reused across multiple projects.
Build proprietary frameworks and indices, such as our Danger Index, that become signature Murph IP rather than one-off analysis.

Content & Reports

Co-author long-form, data-driven reports and essays—think deep dives into fund strategy, LP behavior, or market dynamics.
Translate complex statistical findings into clean, readable narratives for a sophisticated finance audience.
Create charts, tables, and visual summaries that complement written analysis.
Contribute to Substack posts, LinkedIn content, and special research publications.

AI & Tooling

Actively use AI tools, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude, to accelerate research, synthesize sources, and surface insights faster.
Experiment with new data tools and workflows that improve the quality and speed of our research output.

Requirements

Strong foundation in statistics and quantitative analysis—you are comfortable with data, not intimidated by it.
Deep understanding of the venture capital industry: fund structures, LP/GP dynamics, deal mechanics, and market trends.
Ability to work independently: you receive a brief and deliver a polished result with no micromanagement needed.
You get it from the first word—when given a direction, you immediately understand what is needed without lengthy back-and-forth.
Be proactive: come with your own research ideas, flag interesting data you have spotted, and suggest angles we have not explored.
Strong written English—you can write clearly, precisely, and in a tone that feels natural and intelligent, not academic or dry.
Extreme attention to detail—numbers, sources, and formatting all need to be airtight.
Comfortable working with ambiguous, messy, or incomplete datasets—you know how to make reasonable assumptions and document them.
Genuine curiosity about venture capital and startup ecosystems—you read the newsletters, follow the discourse, and have opinions.
Process-driven mindset: you document your methodology, keep your sources organized, and operate from a clean workflow.

Tools We Use

We're tool-agnostic, but here is our current stack:

Data & Analysis: Python (pandas), Excel or Google Sheets, SQL (nice to have), and Tableau.
Research: Claude, Perplexity, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Harmonic.
Visualization: Datawrapper, Flourish, or similar.
Writing & Publishing: Notion and Substack.
Communication: Telegram and Slack.
