Rhia Ventures

Rhia Ventures’ mission is to create a vibrant US market for sexual, reproductive, and maternal health that produces equitable outcomes for all. This multi-billion dollar market has tremendous potential for public health impact, but it has been built on flawed systems that perpetuate unjust outcomes for women of color, low-income women, and others directly affected by systemic inequities. Our work is to transform this market. We know that transformation happens when partners with long experience in reproductive health and justice come together with market-facing actors to create deep, meaningful impact. By connecting activists, public health professionals, scientists, entrepreneurs, corporates, and investors, together we will build a more just marketplace. Rhia is enabling this change through four complementary efforts: We make direct investments in early- and growth-stage companies that are driving innovation, access, and equity in reproductive and maternal health, through our wholly owned venture fund, RH Capital Corporation. We provide technical assistance and shared resources to these companies and others so that they can strengthen their work in health equity and spur change across the venture ecosystem. We work through our Corporate Engagement and Blossom programs to change social norms, practices, and people that influence this market. We produce a systems-change assessment of the market, identifying the key leverage points for addressing systemic racism and other inequities to inform Rhia’s programs and share with grant-makers, investors, and policy-makers seeking to “make this market work for justice,” to paraphrase Darren Walker of the Ford Foundation. Our Vision for Success Alongside our partners, our efforts will: Catalyze investment in innovation that improves equity, access, and outcomes in reproductive and maternal health care Transform systems in the reproductive and maternal health market, to redress systemic inequity and contributes to improving reproductive and maternal health outcomes for women of color, low-income women, and others directly affected by systemic inequities Amplify the perspectives and work of stakeholders of color Strengthen social norms, to support high-quality maternal and reproductive health care for all women and birthing people in the US

The51

By uniting Canada’s untapped women’s wealth, The51 is creating a new critical mass of women investors, making Canada the centre for women-powered capital. With 30% of Alberta’s tech start-ups founded or co-founded by women, The51’s home province is well on its way to achieving this goal; however, with women-founded startups only receiving 2.2% of venture capital available world-wide, The51’s vision spans globally. We know we’ve tapped into something significant because our movement, community and impact continues to grow. The51 Ventures Inc. is a venture fund and Financial Feminist™ platform where current and aspiring investors and entrepreneurs come together to democratize access to capital for women and gender-diverse founders. By driving capital and commercialisation, The51 builds mutual wealth and social/environmental impact, shares knowledge and experiences and practices intersectional feminism through financial action. Our community of influential feminist investors, innovators, and consumers are building the Financial Feminist™ economy. (*when we say “women” we mean all individuals who identify as women. Transgender women are women. The51 is built by women for everyone.) We know we’ve tapped into something significant because our movement, community and impact continues to grow.

Female Founders Fund

In 2014, we created Female Founders Fund with one simple belief: women will build the companies of tomorrow. Since then, we’ve become the leading source of institutional capital for female founders raising seed capital with over $3B in enterprise value. So why do we focus on female founders? WE RECOGNIZED THE OPPORTUNITY. In 2014, $2.2B or 2% of venture capital dollars went towards female-founded companies. Five years later in 2019, 2.7% of venture capital dollars went towards companies with female entrepreneurs. That’s $3.54B out of $110B invested globally. Yet women start businesses at a rate 1.5x higher than the national average and dominate the workforce holding 56% of professional jobs. WE BROKE DOWN THE NUMBERS. In 2015, First Round Capital’s 10 Year Review showed companies with female founders on the founding team perform 63% better than those with only male founders. McKinsey & Co’s 2018 study shows companies in the top quartile for ethnic diversity are 21% more likely to experience above average profits. In the business world, its now widely accepted that diverse companies drive stronger public and private market returns. WE’RE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Female Founders Fund launched in 2014 to address this problem with an opportunity – an investment vehicle focused on investing the next generation of female talent. Over the last seven years, we’ve invested in category-defining female-founded companies like Eloquii, Zola, Maven Clinic, Tala, and so many more. As female investors & operators, we are tracking cultural shifts and identifying opportunities with greater relevance, and with empathy for the founders’ unique journey and perspective. We believe our founders’ success will impact and shape the future of the technology landscape creating a more equitable and diverse future. We’re not just investing in top performers - we’re investing in talented leaders building tomorrow’s companies. That’s an ROI we can all get behind.

Daughters Capital

Daughters Capital is a consumer-tech focused incubator led by the founder of Reformation. We vet opportunities before hiring teams to launch select businesses from the ground up. We only incubate in areas we know extremely well to create a distinct competitive edge. Only 2% of venture capital went to female founders in 2021. There are various contributors. A leading reason is there aren’t enough female founded companies pitching their businesses to investors.Women have an advantage in industries like consumer, beauty, and fashion to name a few. We ignite this natural ability with capital, business literacy and a strong female network of operators. Add a sprinkle of confidence, an unfaltering work ethic and voila 🦄If you have an idea for a startup or want to work at one of our incubated businesses, email us at careers@daughterscapital.com
