Principal – Venture Capital (India office)

Bengaluru, Karnataka, IndiaFull-time2h ago

About the Company:

ICMG Ventures is the venture capital arm of ICMG, a Japan-headquartered co-creation and investment firm with offices in Tokyo and Singapore. Through our Singapore-based, MAS-licensed fund, we invest primarily in Indian and Southeast Asian startups and connect them with leading Japanese corporations to create cross-border value. Beyond capital, we bring a distinctive “co-creation” model: our investment and consulting teams work side by side to support portfolio companies’ growth, Japan and Asia market entry, and new business development with our Japanese corporate partners.

About the Role:

We are hiring a Principal to drive the expansion of our VC business across Asia, with a primary focus on India. You will be hands-on across the entire investment process — sourcing, due diligence, investment decision, closing, and post-investment monitoring — while also engaging in global co-creation projects centered on portfolio companies’ international expansion and new business strategy. This is a senior, hands-on role with significant ownership over ICMG Ventures’ India investment activities.

Office location:

Bengaluru, India (On-site)

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the full investment cycle: sourcing, due diligence, deal structuring and negotiation (term sheets, SHA/SSA), investment committee presentations, and execution
  • Support the management of existing funds and the formation of new funds, including LP reporting and fundraising
  • Lead post-investment value creation and monitoring: identify and help solve portfolio companies’ management challenges; support follow-on financings and exits
  • Collaborate with ICMG’s consulting team on co-creation projects: business development with Japanese corporate partners, overseas market entry, and new business strategy for portfolio companies
  • Build ICMG Ventures’ presence in the Indian startup ecosystem: founders, co-investors, accelerators, and industry communities

Qualifications:

  • Substantial experience as an investment professional at a VC or PE fund, with a demonstrated track record of leading deals end-to-end — from sourcing through closing and monitoring
  • Business-level English (our working language across Tokyo, Singapore, and India)
  • Willingness to be based in Bengaluru, India

Required Skills:

  • Startup operating experience or founding experience
  • Experience with exits (M&A, secondary sales, IPO) and complex shareholder negotiations
  • Board director or board observer experience at portfolio companies
  • Experience working with Japanese or other East Asian corporations, CVCs, or institutional LPs
  • Exposure to fund operations: LP reporting, fundraising, or fund structuring
  • Particularly strong knowledge of any one high-growth sector
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior investment team members
  • MBA, CFA, CA, or a consulting background
  • Japanese language ability (a plus, not required)

Preferred Skills:

  • A team-first investor. You measure success by fund and portfolio outcomes rather than individual deal credit, and you enjoy working closely with colleagues across Tokyo, Singapore, and India.
  • Intellectually curious. You are energized by going deep into unfamiliar industries and technologies, and forming your own conviction across a broad range of sectors.
  • A community builder. You genuinely enjoy building and nurturing networks of founders, co-investors, and ecosystem partners, and you believe long-term relationships are a venture investor’s core asset.
  • Excited by cross-border co-creation. You see the Japan–India corridor as a generational opportunity and enjoy bridging cultures — working with Japanese corporate leaders and Indian founders alike.
  • An owner, not just an operator. You want to build ICMG Ventures’ India franchise, not merely join one.
  • High integrity. You bring a fiduciary mindset toward our LPs and act with honesty and accountability in every negotiation.

Compensation package:

Compensation will be determined at the offer stage based on the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.

Interview Process:

Resume screening, followed by 3–4 interviews with our Singapore and Tokyo leadership (conducted in English), and an aptitude assessment. A casual introductory conversation is available upon request.

How to Apply:

Apply directly through Linkedin. We review every application and will be in touch with shortlisted candidates.
