Grantham Environmental Trust is a public charity and 509(a)(3) supporting organization focused on reducing and reversing global environmental degradation. Alongside its grantmaking, it backs early-stage environmental technologies. The Trust operates globally and is distinct from, but aligned with, the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, a 501(c)(3) private foundation.

Its technical areas span climate change mitigation and stabilization, carbon removal, clean energy, regenerative agriculture, chemical toxicity research and environmental advocacy. Relevant verticals include environmental conservation, climate change, clean energy, agriculture, carbon removal, environmental advocacy, and nonprofit and philanthropy work more broadly.

Governance is vested in an independent majority of trustees drawn from the leadership of major environmental organizations: Rare, The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund US and the Rocky Mountain Institute. Grantmaking is by invitation only, and unsolicited proposals are not accepted. Proposals carrying indirect costs above a 10% maximum allowable rate cannot be considered.
