We are looking for an Investment Associate who brings that combination of technical and financial experience.
The Role
The Investment Associate will work closely with the Frontier Ventures investment team across the full investment lifecycle, from identifying promising companies and developing investment theses through diligence, execution, and portfolio support.
This is a highly analytical and entrepreneurial role for someone who is equally comfortable evaluating a software architecture, discussing a product with a technical founder, analyzing a market, and building an investment case.
Key Responsibilities
Investment sourcing and market research
- Identify and develop relationships with exceptional founders building early-stage AI and software companies.
- Proactively source investment opportunities through founder networks, accelerators, universities, technical communities, investors, and industry research.
- Develop investment theses around emerging areas of AI, software infrastructure, applications, and new technology-enabled business models.
- Track important technical developments, new companies, funding activity, and competitive dynamics across the AI ecosystem.
Investment analysis and due diligence
- Evaluate potential investments across product, technology, team, market, business model, competition, traction, and financial performance.
- Conduct technical diligence on software and AI companies, including assessing product architecture, technical differentiation, data advantages, scalability, and defensibility.
- Assess whether technology represents a durable competitive advantage or can be readily replicated.
- Analyze market size, customer economics, growth, retention, unit economics, and potential network effects.
- Build financial and operating models where appropriate.
- Conduct customer, founder, expert, and reference calls.
- Prepare investment memoranda and present recommendations to the investment team.
Deal execution
- Support the investment team throughout the transaction process, including diligence management, financial analysis, valuation, capitalization analysis, and transaction documentation.
- Maintain clear and rigorous documentation of investment opportunities and decision-making.
Portfolio support
- Work with portfolio company founders on strategic projects including market analysis, fundraising, business development, recruiting, and international expansion.
- Monitor portfolio company operating and financial performance.
- Help portfolio companies prepare for subsequent financing rounds and connect them with relevant investors, customers, partners, and industry experts.
Building Frontier Ventures
- Contribute to the development of Frontier Ventures' investment strategy and sector perspectives.
- Help improve internal investment processes, data infrastructure, research tools, and sourcing systems.
- Represent Frontier Ventures within the startup, technology, and venture capital communities.
