Summary of the Position
We are looking for a talented, proactive, fiercely driven, and intellectually curious professional with a passion for competing, driving value, and overdelivering to support Next Legacy’s direct investment activities. This role will partner closely with the Investment team across sourcing, diligence, execution, and portfolio support, contributing to investment decisions across direct company investments.
The Associate will evaluate investment opportunities, conduct market research, and help inform capital allocation decisions in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. This role offers meaningful exposure to founder evaluation, market diligence, investment analysis, and portfolio company support, while working alongside an experienced, multidisciplinary team focused on strong returns and meaningful impact.
This role will report to Ryan Nece, Managing Director.
Responsibilities
Deal Sourcing & Pipeline Support
- Partner with the Investment team to source and evaluate direct venture investment opportunities
- Drive sector research, market mapping, and competitive analysis across relevant industries
- Build and maintain pipeline tracking for prospective investments
- Monitor industry trends, emerging sectors, and market developments
Investment Diligence & Analysis
- Conduct diligence on prospective investments, including market analysis, business model evaluation, competitive positioning, and financial performance
- Build financial models, scenario analyses, and investment frameworks
- Evaluate founders, leadership teams, and organizational strength
- Prepare investment memos, diligence materials, and internal recommendation summaries
Portfolio Support
- Monitor active portfolio company performance and updates
- Support ongoing analysis, portfolio reporting, and strategic initiatives
- Maintain strong relationships with founders and portfolio stakeholders where appropriate
Cross-Functional Support
- Partner with leadership and broader internal teams on investment-related initiatives, reporting, and strategic projects
- Maintain investment data integrity across systems and reporting tools
- Support events, ecosystem engagement, and broader firm initiatives as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; 3+ years of work experience in venture capital, growth equity, private equity, or another highly analytical field requiring rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Demonstrated experience evaluating venture-backed businesses
- Experience leading diligence and preparing investment recommendations
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, with an eagerness and ability to leverage tools such as Airtable, Tableau, PitchBook, Claude and other AI tools
- Self-starter with strong initiative, attention to detail, and excellent ability to prioritize and complete projects with high standards
- Intellectual agility, curiosity, and creativity; problem-solving is your default mode
- Unimpeachable integrity and glowing references; motivated by our mission and values
- An energetic, efficient, and resourceful team player and individual contributor
- Naturally curious with a passion for engaging with founders and a deep interest in technology and innovation
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with a willingness to continually improve
- Must live in the San Francisco Bay Area or be willing to relocate, as this position is based in Portola Valley
Preferred Experience
- Prior venture investment experience
- Exposure to startup ecosystems, founder networks, or early-stage company analysis
