Investment Strategy Our investment strategy is based on these 10 principles: 100% focus on climate tech Global fund Early stage - seed is our sweetspot but we’ll do preseed and series A opportunistically We don't lead deals and we only invest when there is a lead on board We move very fast (aim to close the deal in 2-3 calls / same week) We work transparently - we share our investment heuristics and strategy and provide 100% honest feedback We only invest in 1% of the companies that we see We are as hands on as you want us to be Average ticket size for seed investments is $300k. This allows us to have a fast and standardized process for efficiency We require the following investor rights: pro-rata, information, co-sale and ROFR

Over a decade supporting climate innovation Evergreen Climate Innovations, formerly Clean Energy Trust, supports entrepreneurs and startups that are bringing impactful climate technologies to market. Structured as a nonprofit, we pioneered our 501vc® Investment Fund to align philanthropic and corporate contributions to deliver environmental, economic, and social impact. Upon investing, we work actively with our portfolio companies to provide strategic guidance, mentorship, and help in achieving critical milestones and connections to funding, demonstration opportunities, and customers. Evergreen is committed to advancing climate innovation and expanding access to such innovation across the Greater Midwest. Critical early-stage climate solutions are underfunded Climate change is humanity’s greatest challenge but represents a small fraction of total venture investment and philanthropic support. Evergreen Climate Innovations addresses the capital gap that exists for early-stage climate tech companies. The Midwest is particularly underserved with only 3% of early-stage climate tech investment going to the Midwest. Our Impact Thesis We invest in startups developing innovative solutions with the potential to make outsized impacts on the climate emergency and related environmental and sustainability challenges. Moreover, these companies create jobs and drive economic development. Our 501vc® Investment Fund: a unique approach Evergreen’s 501vc® model is a seed stage investment fund capitalized with philanthropic dollars. Our fund’s revolving evergreen structure enables us to recycle our investment returns to generate compounding impact. Bringing Climate Technologies to Market Our unique model allows us to be more patient and absorb more risk than a traditional investor, helping to bridge the early-stage commercialization gap. We are hands-on investors. We work closely with our portfolio companies to identify and execute a clear, well-funded path to market. Beyond the money we invest, we provide invaluable resources and opportunities that arise from our extensive network throughout the climate tech innovation ecosystem that we have spent over a decade cultivating.

Through our 4-way all-encompassing unique eco-system, our university investor partners provide us with access to the ‘very earliest’ investment opportunities possible, opening the door to concepts, ideas and innovations well before other venture capital funds. Our investment approach We invest in applied technologies that address high-impact global niche markets and will bring about social, environmental or economic change. Every potential investment must have a pathway to being a sustainable business and contributing impact to the UN Sustainable Development Goals either through the technology or through their business model. We look for technologies that provide a market advantage that is hard to replicate. They will have emerged either from researchers who have had long well-funded R&D cycles or innovators who have deep domain specialisation in an industry and so know their market problem exceptionally well. We are sector agnostic driven by the thematics that arise from the core capabilities of our partner universities and the innovations we uncover. The accelerators Strong market-fit and early industry engagement are imperative. We seek to accelerate the path to market dramatically by sourcing early adopters to validate the market need and aim to achieve market traction within 12-24 months. Our ability to find these early adopters is a key part of Significant’s initial due diligence.
