About

We believe that innovation can occur anywhere in today's digital economy and invest in the future of technology and life sciences, primarily targeting companies founded in U.S. regions historically underserved by the venture capital community.

We proudly partner with visionary entrepreneurs with the integrity and grit to build world-changing companies. Founders and their teams are always at the center of what we do.

We look for tech-forward founders with unwavering dedication and passion for solving society's most important problems.

Our Thesis

We target globally-scalable startups built in undercapitalized markets like Florida and its surrounding regions.

  • Our Stage: We target Seed and Series A stage companies. We are comfortable being the first institutional capital in a company after friends, family, and angel investors.
  • Our Industries: We are cross-disciplinary investors that explore opportunities in industries ranging from life sciences to space technology and B2B SaaS.
  • Our Geographies: We primarily target US regions, like Florida and its surrounding regions, that have been traditionally underserved by the venture capital ecosystem.
  • Other Qualities: We look for tech-forward founders leveraging the democratization of resources to build globally-scalable, capital-efficient startups.

We're seed investors who write $500K checks and decide quickly. Once we invest, we roll up our sleeves to design you a better site and hop on Zoom calls to brainstorm how to acquire customers step-by-step. We focus on deep tech, but opportunistically invest across sectors. We love investing in Deep Tech Marketplaces B2B SaaS About Julian Shapiro I was the VP of Marketing for Webflow ($4B+ valuation). I then ran growth for Heap Analytics ($960M+ valuation), and I helped grow Clearbit. I then founded Demand Curve (YC S19) to help tens of thousands of startups grow. There, I acquired users for Imperfect Foods, Tovala, Outschool, and others. Our agency, Bell Curve, has grown Microsoft, Ancestry, TechCrunch, and more. I also wrote TechCrunch’s marketing column. Most people know me for my longform handbooks on Julian.com. There, I've built a large audience of startup employees (Twitter) plus I write a popular newsletter. Here’s a sampling of the nice things folks have said. Before this, I was an engineer. I built one of the most popular open source libraries: Velocity.js (Wikipedia, Github). For it, I was awarded the Stripe Open Source grant and I was profiled in Forbes. Prior to Julian Capital, I was an angel investor in Ramp, Republic, Mercury, Yassir, and ClassDojo.

Shearwater Capital

We look similar, but we're fundamentally different to other venture funds. We've built our own businesses. We're investing our own money. We're not limited in what we can do. We invest in people, not ideas. We seek founders who are passionate about building generationally great companies. We focus on fast growth tech companies ...but we’re infinitely inquisitive Our depth of experience and lack of constraint are powerful when it comes to working with great founders. Our experience lends itself to founders of technology start-ups who are building growing businesses and who value our capital and experience. We look for growth equity positions, where we’re all on the same side of the table. Because we've been there before, we’re interested in simple capital tables with aligned, participating shareholders. Our best experiences have been when we're the only shareholder, and when we invested at inception. We don’t have a fund horizon or limitations. This lets us play the long-game for the truly outstanding companies. Our view is that it's your company and we'll do what we can to help you succeed. We're happy to buy founder or secondary shares where it makes sense. Fundamentally, what matters to us is that we back high integrity founders to build world-class businesses. Our Investment Focus This is what we value and look for in our investments. But we’re infinitely inquisitive (that is, we break rules!). So if your business doesn’t necessarily tick all these boxes and you are raising venture / growth capital or might in the future, please drop us a line (no, it doesn’t need to be a warm intro!) Great people: Passionate entrepreneurs that we like and want to work with. Complex domains: Companies that are solving significant problems. Business software: Software that has the capacity to be mission critical over time. Recurring revenue: Business models which are – or look like – recurring revenue. Growing markets: Markets that are rapidly growing (though we often find the best SaaS businesses start with small TAMs). Founders we can help: Companies and founders who have a deep ability to scale and learn and where we understand their domains.

Jump Capital

Jump provides series A and B capital to data-driven tech companies within the FinTech, IT & Data Infrastructure, B2B SaaS and Media sectors. We back entrepreneurs with bold vision seeking a business partner and not just a financial investor. SECTOR FOCUSED, THESIS-LED To be an effective partner, it’s important to have depth of understanding within micro-segments of specific sectors. OPERATING LENS We are active, engaged investors who bring resources to our investments including our Operating, Talent and Corporate/Business Development teams. SCALE ANYWHERE Great founders and opportunities are not confined to a geography. With nearly 50% of our investments outside the coasts, we seek opportunity, not convenience.
