Role Mandate
This Investment Director will focus on deal sourcing and execution in companies commercializing digital technologies, diagnostics, medical devices and therapeutics with the potential to significantly drive health outcomes for women and children internationally. The individual will also support the management of CBIV's portfolio companies from all funds under management post-deal closing through exit and beyond, as well as support firm-wide efforts to build and grow the brand with future funds. For the right candidate, this role is intended to progress to Principal, based on performance, judgment, cultural fit and the needs of CBIV.
Core Responsibilities
Venture Investing & Execution
- Source and evaluate early-stage venture investment opportunities across healthcare, including managing inbound pipeline, sourcing at industry events and through network connections as well as via in-depth market segment analysis
- Lead full-cycle venture diligence: scientific, clinical, and regulatory assessment; market sizing and unmet-need validation; exit analysis; competitive dynamics and durability of proprietary advantages; business-model analysis
- Author IC-ready impact and investment memos and actively contribute to pipeline prioritization and investment decisions
- Partner with senior leadership on deal structuring, pricing and syndicate construction
- Evaluate market potential for lower-resource settings and for underserved segments of populations
Portfolio Leadership
- Act as a strategic partner to founders on clinical and regulatory strategy
- Advise on go-to-market, pricing and scaling strategy, including international markets
- Support venture fundraising and investor positioning
- Support follow-on investment decisions and portfolio strategy and management
- Prepare detailed quarterly asset valuations and contribute to all aspects of quarterly reporting and portfolio monitoring
- Work closely with senior management on portfolio exit strategies
- Participate as board observer when required
Platform & Firm Building
- Help shape CBIV's long-term venture strategy and portfolio construction
- Perform thematic research and external thought leadership
- Expand the firm's network of scientists, clinicians, operators, global health experts and co-investors
- Mentor junior investment team members and help continuously improve the firm's internal processes
- Engage selectively with institutional LPs and represent the firm externally at industry and investor events
- Contribute to the firm’s thought leadership in the ecosystem
Candidate Profile
Required Experience
- Venture capital investing experience in related sectors, including experience working up an investment with technology, scientific, clinical and commercial risk in a venture context along with successfully presenting due diligence findings and analysis to investment committees
- Comfortable evaluating investments in companies with different fundamentals and business models, including SaaS or enterprise software models, and D2C, B2B2C or B2B approaches in diverse industry segments such as consumer products, regulated medical devices, diagnostics or therapeutics
- Experience supporting senior investment team members in portfolio management

Bonus Experience, Skills or Aptitudes*
- PhD / MS / MD
- Experience as an operator, clinician or scientist in addition to venture capital background
- Pharma background
- Expertise in complementary financing (grants, debt, etc.)
- Experience working on M&A transactions (sell-side or buy-side)
- Exposure to public and global health challenges and opportunities and/or lived experience in LMICs
- Understanding of different payment/reimbursement models in the US
- Experience developing and working with AI tools
- Board or board observer experience
