BGF

BGF provides patient minority early-stage and growth equity to SMEs across the UK and Ireland from a £3 billion evergreen balance sheet.

BGF is an investment company founded in 2011 to address the funding gap facing small and medium-sized enterprises in the United Kingdom. It provides minority early-stage and growth equity to companies across the UK and Ireland, with a stated focus on growth-stage SMEs and businesses at late seed through Series B. Its central structural feature is a £3 billion evergreen balance sheet - permanent capital rather than a conventional closed-end fund - which allows it to hold positions without a fixed exit horizon.

The firm's investment stance is deliberately non-controlling: BGF does not take majority stakes and works alongside existing founders and management teams rather than replacing them. Alongside capital, it offers portfolio companies access to expertise, networks and practical support intended to aid responsible, long-term value creation. Hundreds of companies have been backed across investment stages, sectors and regions. Sector interests listed include deep tech and life sciences.

Operationally, BGF employs more than 200 people across 15 offices in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The firm is a certified UK B Corp and describes its philosophy in terms of ‘good growth’: leading well, growing sustainably, taking thoughtful steps, keeping broad minds and going further together.
