backtrace is a Munich-based venture capital fund focused on technology infrastructure — AI, software infrastructure, cybersecurity, and developer tools. We are looking for an AI Research & Tech Lead to work closely with the investment team, evaluate technological developments, refine investment theses, and implement AI technologies across the fund.
Responsibilities
- Track AI and agent developments to sharpen and develop market theses
- Support internal AI process improvements and technology implementation
- Assist portfolio companies with AI and agent deployment
- Conduct competitive and market analysis on emerging AI providers and trends
- Manage special cross-functional projects
Requirements
- Strong technical foundations (computer science, mathematics, physics, or similar)
- Practical AI/agent workflow experience from startups or research
- Analytical abilities with strong problem-solving skills
- Fluency in both German and English
