Why AV, Why Now?
The Global Operating Environment has entered a phase transition. The assumptions that shaped the post-Cold War era — uncontested supply chains and predictable technology diffusion — have eroded. We now operate in a world defined by strategic competition and acute technological asymmetries.
At AV, we believe resilience is not a passive buffer against shocks. It is an active capability. We are investing in a sophisticated Ring of Resilience woven from intersecting technological vectors that allow for adaptation, reconfiguration, and sustainment of critical functions under stress.
The Ring of Resilience is comprised of six technology vectors that — when developed in parallel — form a mutually reinforcing mesh across industrial, physical, and informational domains. Where one capability encounters natural limits (physics, scale, latency), another compensates. The aggregate effect is a technology posture that is more robust, more maneuverable, and more sovereign than any single innovation alone.
We are opening our doors to technical experts to help us find, vet, and back the founders building this protective shield.
Who You Are
We are looking for builders, researchers, and engineers who want to understand how capital accelerates frontier science.
- A specific technical focus. You have deep domain expertise or intense technical aptitude in at least one of our six investment vectors. If you see a different angle around how your technical expertise applies to a particular vector, we encourage you to defend why.
- A unique vantage point. Undergraduates, graduate students, researchers, and industry professionals are all welcome to apply.
- An eye for business. You have an innate curiosity about the business side of innovation and what separates a "science project" from a commercially viable company.
What You Will Do & What You Will Gain
The AV Tech Fellowship is an immersive, get-what-you-put-in crash course in how deep-tech is commercialized. You will have the opportunity to operate across the entire lifecycle of a startup — and you will have the autonomy to shape your focus based on your specific technical expertise.
- Design a Self-Directed Project: Forget cookie-cutter assignments. You have the freedom to select a sub-sector within our six vectors, map the ecosystem, and ultimately present a formal investment thesis to the AV team.
- Shadow Frontline Deals: Actively participate in team deal reviews, initial screening calls, and partner meetings. Your primary output is raw translation: providing unfiltered technical takes on founder claims.
- Drive Deep-Tech Diligence: Dive into data rooms for live, high-stakes deals. Your job is to bypass the marketing and identify a startup's true technical moat, physics bottlenecks, and regulatory hurdles.
- Embed in Portfolio Operations: Match with existing startups in our portfolio to solve discrete, real-world technical bottlenecks and evaluate scale-up architectures using your specific domain expertise.
- Unlock Access & Mentorship: Receive 1-on-1 mentorship from an Airbus Ventures leader, and build a rolodex that will define the next decade of your career through direct introductions to top builders, researchers, and founders.
Note: This fellowship is unpaid. We strongly encourage applicants who can coordinate with their university to participate for independent study or academic credit.
