Scientific Reasoning for Deep Tech | PhD Theoretical Physics | Strategy & Quantitative Analytics
Maynooth, Kildare, Ireland
I evaluate the scientific credibility of deep-tech claims before breakfast. Structuring the business case around them takes until lunch. I’m completing a PhD in theoretical physics at Maynooth and hold a degree in international affairs from HSG St.Gallen. I trained as a strategy consultant at Oliver Wyman and spent a decade at the crossroads of high-performance computing, scientific reasoning, institutional governance, and quantitative analysis. I now focus on opportunities where rigorous scientific analysis informs investment and strategy decisions. Proof of execution: ◦ During my internship at Oliver Wyman, I contributed to strategic repositioning projects across Swiss and EU clients; combined engagement outcomes helped preserve 700+ jobs. ◦ As Quartermaster (First Lieutenant) in the Swiss Armed Forces, I managed a seven-figure annual operating budget for provisioning and accommodation logistics supporting up to 2,000 personnel across six sites. ◦ Improved runtime of distributed HPC workloads by 12.3% through profile-guided optimization. ◦ Published an early empirical analysis of ChatGPT's capabilities and failure modes in December 2022 (three weeks after launch). ◦ Built and communicated research in both large-scale and single-author settings: 400+ citations, 541-author collaboration experience, and Republic of Ireland representation on an international quantum gravity committee. I’m particularly interested in AI, frontier computing, space technology, and quantitative finance, where technical due diligence and clear decision framing are high-leverage. Swiss and German national. Native German speaker. Open to roles in Switzerland, Europe, and remote.

Education
National University of Ireland, Maynooth
PhD in Theoretical Physics, Theoretical Physics
Sep 2022 – Present
The Universe is full of conundrums. One is its accelerated expansion. Using supernova data does not yield the same rate of acceleration as CMB data. Using string-theoretical concepts, the mathematical formalism of General Relativity, numerical computer code, and observational data, I try to find Ansätze towards a remedy of this discrepancy, and a better understanding of cosmological models and the Hubble crisis. Applied core skills: model assessment under uncertainty; built, validated, and optimised C/Python computational workflows; long-term project management; resilience; strong technical due-diligence skills: assumption testing, model-risk assessment, and decision-making under uncertainty.
Universitat de Barcelona
Visiting Doctoral Researcher, String theory and cosmology (baryonic acoustic oscillations, early Universe physics, black holes, modified gravity)
Sep 2023 – Dec 2023
During my time at ICCUB in Barcelona, I worked in a highly active theoretical-physics environment at the intersection of cosmology, gravity, and string theory. Engaging with researchers on black hole physics, baryonic acoustic oscillations, early-universe physics, and machine-learning applications broadened my perspective and strengthened my ability to connect ideas across subfields.
