Wintermute

Wintermute Ventures is the venture investment arm of Wintermute, a crypto-native algorithmic trading firm founded in 2017. The unit invests in early-stage digital-asset and blockchain businesses, with a stated focus on emerging DeFi (decentralised finance) protocols. Active since 2020, it has backed more than 120 projects over that period.

The venture activity sits within a broader group whose core business is algorithmic trading and liquidity provision. Wintermute provides algorithmic liquidity across most cryptocurrency exchanges and trading platforms, applying the technology standards of high-frequency trading firms in traditional markets to digital assets, and operates across centralised (CeFi), decentralised (DeFi), and traditional (TradFi) venues. Alongside trading, the firm runs an OTC liquidity desk serving more than 2,000 counterparties, ranging from global financial institutions to crypto-native companies, and an incubation function for companies and protocols in the crypto and DeFi space.

This combination of trading, OTC, venture investment, and incubation gives the group direct operational exposure to the markets in which its portfolio companies build. Wintermute has navigated multiple crypto industry cycles since its founding and maintains offices in London, New York, and Singapore.
