Position Overview

TriplePoint Capital is looking to add a Managing Director to our Originations Team. This position is based in New York City. This role provides a compelling opportunity to join a rapidly growing team highly focused on deal execution.

Ideal candidates will be experienced originations and investment team members, specifically in venture lending and venture capital. Ideal applicants will have established strong networks and relationships within the venture capital and growth equity communities and connections with startup executives.

These networks should span various sectors, particularly in technology and life sciences, encompassing industries such as software, fintech, health tech, consumer products, and life sciences. A strong understanding of these sectors and the ability to leverage these connections to identify and evaluate potential investment opportunities is crucial for success in this role.

The role primarily focuses on identifying and sourcing new investment opportunities by leveraging relationships with venture capitalists, company executives, entrepreneurs, and other key players within the startup and venture ecosystem.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Sourcing Investments: Proactively building and maintaining strong relationships with venture capitalists and influential figures in the startup community to identify promising investment opportunities.

Negotiating Debt Financing Transactions: Skillfully negotiating the terms and conditions of debt financing transactions with both new portfolio companies and existing ones.

Due Diligence and Underwriting: Actively participating in the due diligence process by analyzing financial statements, assessing business models, and evaluating market potential.

Presentation to the Credit/Investment Committee: Prepare detailed presentations that outline the potential benefits and risks associated with each transaction for the Credit Committee.

Portfolio Management: After closing transactions, closely monitor and manage portfolio company investments to ensure they meet performance expectations.

Requirements

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of venture capital industry and ideally prior experience at a venture capital fund, P/E fund, or other recognized financial investment institution. Investment banking experience at bulge bracket firms or other elite boutique banks a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in venture debt, venture capital, private credit, investment banking, or a related field, with a demonstrated track record in deal origination.
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed business development targets and demonstrate effective decision-making in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong track record of sourcing deals

The salary range for this role is $250,000 to $400,000, based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. This range applies only to jobs in the specified area. In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for a bonus, and our comprehensive compensation package includes benefits like paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement plan, and life insurance for eligible employees.
