About

We are focused on the two forces radically transforming the food economy: Climate and Culture.

Nowhere are the impacts being felt deeper than our global food system – from how we grow to what we eat. The early signs of the shift are clear:

  • Multicultural citizens account for nearly all of US population growth.
  • There is clear evidence that our current food supply chains are inefficient, wasteful, and environmentally detrimental; 21-37% of GHG emissions is attributable to the food system
  • The food system fails to serve many communities across the world - healthy diets are out of reach for nearly 3 billion people.
  • By 2050, we will need to feed 10 billion people nutritiously and in a sustainable fashion.

We invest at the intersection of food, culture, and technology – catalyzing early stage sustainable businesses modernizing the food system.

Culture is a key gateway to a more sustainable and healthy food system. Investing with a lens for culture will unlock access to a more resilient food system. Investing with a culture & climate lens means investing in founders who bring a diverse set of technologies, crops and flavors to our plates that facilitate and accelerate the development of diverse and sustainable solutions from farm to fork.

We’re at an exciting but crucial point in this fast moving transformation. One where the highly industrialized and highly processed food systems of the past 100 years are clashing with new ideas, perspectives, innovations, and technologies to create the polyculture future.

Our team is catalyzing systemic impact and change in the venture ecosystem across the full capital stack – from diverse LPs, to diverse GPs, to the founders we invest in and the businesses that they build.

Supply Change Capital’s mission is to invest in this changing future of food.

We believe inclusive systems innovation, which enables all people and places to participate and benefit, is essential to a strong food system that is better for everyone. With teams on the ground across Europe, we bridge the gap between countries and regions with low innovation capacity and those leading the way. And we put consumers at the heart of our work, helping build trust by reconnecting them to the origins of their food, directly involving them in the innovation process, and working with the food sector to increase transparency. Collaboration is central to all our work, which spans the whole food value chain, and is vital to meet the big challenges we face. Together with our community, we will build an innovative and resilient food system that in turn creates a healthier society and planet.

Sucden Ventures aims to support disruptive and impactful technologies that can transform the food supply chain in the fields of sustainability, efficiency but also health and nutrition. Sucden Ventures will take advantage of the competitive benefits offered by the Sucden network of companies and partners, built over decades across many regions, and from Sucden’s industrial and agricultural assets. SPECIALIST AREAS We're looking to support innovation and development in three specialist and growing areas of the food tech and agri tech ecosystem. They are: alternative proteins, both cell-based and plant-based alternative or new ingredients plant and crop sciences. PORTFOLIO COMPANIES Sucden Ventures has already made, and currently maintains, several direct investments in new companies innovating in the field of new ingredients. Alongside its historical partner, Continental Grain, Sucden Ventures has also made co-investments in a dozen of companies. One of which uses natural fermentation of mushrooms to create novel plant-based ingredients and transformative technology, offering solutions for sugar reduction, food insecurity, sustainable protein, natural immune support and much more. Another company looks at leveraging plant and crop sciences to offer a clean alternative to synthetic nitrogen fertilizer. INVESTMENT APPROACH We make investments in relatively early-stage growth companies in the specialist sectors mentioned above, potentially anywhere in the world. Lewis & Clark AgriFood

As a late-stage, growth equity-focused fund, we arrive in the sweet spot between seed/early-stage and the buyout phase, minimizing risk and maximizing value. We work with exceptional entrepreneurs to help scale their business with capital and resources. Our holistic investment approach to AgriFood realizes value across the entire value chain from pre-production to distribution. Growth and late stage investments are an underserved market need in Agriculture and Food, and we’re biased towards underinvested sub-sectors within these verticals. Much of our investing happens between the coasts. Our St. Louis location puts us within 500 miles of 70% of US agriculture production. Additionally, the highest concentration of plant science PHDs in the world live in the St. Louis area, giving us a unique position to scout, form relationships, and strike deals with this rich talent pool. Our exhaustive, metric-driven underwriting process ensures we invest in the best of the best. We lean towards tech-enabled, sustainable AgriFood companies in the late stage VC/growth stage with converging to positive operating cash flow. This limits risk and leads to outsized returns. Gullspång Re:food

We are a for-profit, evergreen investment firm on two continents helping entrepreneurs solve the most pressing food system challenges for future generations. We have invested in the green transition of the food system since 2015 and have more than two decades of work experience in leading roles in the food industry. We believe in paradigm shifts, not incremental solutions Our cheap calories come at a steep price. With the population growth there is an increasing number of mouths to feed. Still, food production is already the primary contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, loss of species, and soil degradation. The equation doesn’t add up, but it’s solvable. Bold entrepreneurs with transformative innovations have started the redesign of our food system into a biodiverse carbon sink feeding the billions with nutritious food. The outcome is resilience, regeneration, and abundance. We invest in category defining companies driving the reformation of the global food system. Our investment focus areas Sustainable supply chains: Revalorize resources in shorter and circular supply chains that minimize lost nutrients, material, and energy. Healthy diets: Revitalize health with nutritious, delicious, and personalized diets that prevent disease. Sustainable proteins and fats: Rethink where delicious, economically scalable, and resource-efficient food comes from. Healthy soils: Redesign farming techniques to improve our soils' capacity, health, and productivity.

Clay Capital

Pioneers in deploying venture capital into high impact agrifood tech since 2014, we back ambitious teams that are reconnecting and strengthening the link between human health and the health of the planet through innovative technology. Clay Capital was founded with the belief that food is both the cause of, and remedy to, some of today’s most urgent challenges: environmental degradation, societal inequity, and human health. We see these issues as interconnected. In Europe and Asia especially, there is a generation of entrepreneurs motivated to tackle the $12 trillion market opportunity that lies in restoring and reconnecting human and planetary health - and who have a toolkit fit for purpose: from farmers and chefs, to biotechnologists, computational biologistics, plant scientists, computer engineers and multidisciplinary teams merging these skillsets. There is no single silver bullet; transforming a system that has supported humanity in its evolution from Nomadic to Agrarian, and been the seed that rooted and grew societies around the globe, will not happen overnight. Therefore, there’s an urgent need for both transitional solutions and revolutionary new infrastructure. We aim to back both, and enable a healthier food system to co-exist with a healthier planet within our lifetimes. Clay Capital invests to strengthen and refocus how materials are produced and consumed through innovation to have sustainable, nutritious, and circular outcomes. This context presents us with unrivalled opportunities for smart investing - investments that address urgent issues today, for a better tomorrow.
