SoundBoard Venture Fund
SoundBoard Venture Fund is a collaborative early-stage fund investing in Seed and Pre-Series A technology-enabled companies, with a focus on founders outside major US startup centres.
SoundBoard Venture Fund is a collaborative early-stage venture fund founded in 2012 by entrepreneurs Richard Magid and Jonathan Hakakian. Formerly SoundBoard Angel Fund, it invests in post-concept companies raising Seed or Pre-Series A rounds, targeting technology-enabled business models. The fund reports $7.5 million of total capital invested across 48 portfolio companies.
The fund's stated mandate has a geographic dimension: a particular focus on founders outside major startup centres and in underserved geographies of the United States, framed as a mission to improve capital access in those markets. Investment criteria emphasise understandable businesses with scalable competitive advantages, strong founders and leadership teams, and novel applications of technology.
SoundBoard operates a collaborative model in which its limited partners, drawn largely from experienced entrepreneurs, take part in the evaluation of opportunities and in investment decision-making. Post-investment, the fund assigns a company liaison, advisor, or board member to work alongside the entrepreneur, drawing on the varied operating perspectives of the partnership rather than a formal platform team.
