Shadow Ventures

Early-stage venture capital firm investing in seed-stage technology companies transforming construction, real estate and core infrastructure in the built environment.

Shadow Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm backing founders building technology for the built environment - construction and real estate, along with adjacent verticals including engineering, architecture, building products, housing and core infrastructure. Its stated investment areas span construction robotics, building automation, property management technology and broader proptech and construction tech. The firm frames its mandate around technology applied to structural problems in these sectors, including climate change, labour shortages and housing access.

Capital deployment is concentrated at seed. In June 2024 the firm announced Seed Fund II, a $34 million seed-stage vehicle intended to support founders working on core infrastructure challenges across construction and real estate. Real estate is cited by the firm as the world's largest asset class, at roughly $300 trillion.

The firm's distinguishing structural feature is its Strategic Limited Partner Network, which is paired with investments to support portfolio companies. The network draws on limited partners across construction, engineering, architecture and real estate, and collectively represents more than $100 billion in real estate assets under management, over $20 billion in annual construction and building-products revenue, and more than 10,000 design and engineering professionals. The model combines early-stage capital with sector distribution and expertise, positioning portfolio companies against incumbent operating realities in the built world.
