Pender Ventures is seeking a highly capable and detail-oriented Analyst to join our investment team. This role is responsible for using AI tools and research methods to identify and reach out to promising B2B software companies, and for conducting initial calls with the founders to assess their potential as investments. The role also involves detailed analysis of these companies, including building financial models and preparing written assessments of each opportunity for the investment team.

About the Role
We are seeking an Analyst on a 24-month contract term, to join and grow with our team. In this role, you will support the investment team with identifying potential companies for investment, conducting initial screening calls, and rigorous financial analysis and modeling. You will be comfortable using AI in your day-to-day workflow, while maintaining the ability to critically review and analyze all outputs and make suggestions for improvement.
Responsibilities will include:
AI Tools
- Use AI and traditional research tools to source, screen, and research prospective companies, and to support financial modeling and diligence work, applying judgment to check and refine every output before it feeds into an investment decision.
- Help identify, test, and adopt new AI tools and workflows that make the team faster and more thorough at evaluating and managing investments.
Prospective Company Outreach
- Identify and reach out to promising companies, monitor prospects, create alerts, and prepare first contact materials/research
- Conduct initial screening calls with founders and management teams to assess fit and investment potential.
- Research target industries, competitors, and market trends, including deep dives into healthtech and other relevant sectors, to develop insights and inform investment theses.
Financial Modeling and Assessment
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models to support investment decisions, portfolio valuations, and scenario analysis.
- Conduct thorough financial assessments of prospective investments, analyzing business models, revenue streams, and unit economics.
- Contribute to all aspects of the due diligence process, including leading financial due diligence, assessing market dynamics and competition, and evaluating risks.
- Prepare investment memos and presentations summarizing findings for the investment committee.
- Support capital allocation decisions by providing data-driven insights into portfolio performance and resource requirements.
Qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA, MBA) are a plus.
- 2–3 years of experience in financial analysis, investment banking, private equity, management consulting, venture capital, or a similar field.
- Proficiency in Excel (advanced financial modeling), financial databases (e.g., Bloomberg, CapIQ), and presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint).
- Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow modeling, and valuation techniques.
- Experience conducting research using a range of data sources and translating analysis to presentations / papers to communicate insights. Exceptional ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights and recommendations.
- Analytical Mindset: Proactive and curious, with a passion for uncovering insights and solving complex problems and demonstrated interest in investing.
- Excellent time and project management skills: detail-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills

We are sharing that compensation for this role will include an estimated salary between $90,000 - $110,000 per year, along with a commission and bonus package. In determining final salary, Pender considers many factors including the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, job responsibilities, market conditions, position location and internal equity. Our aim is to ensure fair compensation practices that align with industry standards while acknowledging the unique value and expertise each individual brings to the role. The final base salary for the offer will be presented as part of a competitive compensation package.
