About Northgate
Northgate Capital is a multi-billion AUM venture investment firm founded in 2000 that gives institutional and private investors access to venture capital through several complementary strategies:
- Premier Venture Fund of Funds: a concentrated portfolio of commitments to top-tier, access-constrained venture managers.
- Growth Strategy: direct and secondary investments in high-growth technology companies.
- Late-Stage Strategy: direct and secondary investments in later-stage, pre-exit technology companies.
Our investors include public pensions, endowments, foundations, family offices, RIAs, consultants, and high-net-worth individuals in the U.S. and abroad. Northgate is an SEC registered investment advisor.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Principal of Investor Relations to lead capital formation and relationship coverage for a significant part of Northgate's investor base. The Principal will own fundraising from start to finish. The Principal will serve as a senior representative of the firm with allocators, consultants, and wealth platforms.
This is a senior, revenue-generating role for an experienced fundraiser who can independently source, advance, and close LP commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Formation Leadership
- Lead fundraising for across Northgate's fund-of-funds, growth, and late-stage vehicles.
- Independently source, lead, and close new LP relationships, with accountability for commitment targets.
- Build and carry out channel strategies, including consultant coverage, platform onboarding, and targeted outreach programs.
- Lead LP meetings, diligence sessions, and on-site visits with a partner as needed.
- Drive re-ups and cross-strategy allocations from existing LPs.
- Structure and market SPVs and co-investment opportunities for qualified investors.
Relationship Coverage
- Serve as senior relationship owner for a portfolio of key LPs, ensuring strong engagement and high retention.
- Represent Northgate at industry conferences, speaking engagements, and allocator events.
- Develop and maintain relationships with consultants, gatekeepers, and intermediaries.
Positioning & Materials
- Shape the investor narrative for each strategy, making clear how a fund-of-funds program, direct growth, and late-stage secondaries fit together in an LP portfolio.
- Oversee pitch books, DDQs, RFPs, and consultant database submissions for assigned vehicles, with support from Associates/VPs.
- Provide market feedback to the partners on LP demand, pricing, terms, and product opportunities.
Team & Process
- Promote pipeline discipline and accurate CRM reporting across the team.
- Work with finance, legal, and fund administration on closings, onboarding, and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 10+ years of experience in capital formation, investor relations, or business development at a venture, growth equity, private equity, fund-of-funds, secondaries firm, placement agent, or alternative asset manager.
- A proven record of personally sourcing and closing LP commitments, not just supporting a raise.
- Established relationships with U.S. institutional investors, family offices, consultants, RIAs, and/or wealth platforms.
- Deep understanding of venture and private market fund structures, LP economics, and performance metrics. Strong familiarity with how allocators evaluate fund-of-funds, venture, growth and secondaries strategies.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, with credibility in high-stakes LP conversations.
- A proven record of raising capital and managing LP relationships, with established relationships across U.S. institutional and private wealth channels.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, and comfortable owning both strategy and execution in a lean team.
- Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel. Experience with CRM tools (e.g., Affinity, DealCloud, Salesforce, Altvia).
- Willingness to travel for investor meetings and conferences, primarily within the U.S., but international travel may be required from time to time.
The Ideal Candidate
- Is a proven closer with a hunter mentality and a long-term relationship orientation.
- Can work independently with sound judgment while collaborating closely with partners.
- Has a strategic view of LP demand, not just transaction execution.
- Holds high standards for accuracy, integrity, and professionalism.
- Is genuinely interested in venture and technology investing.
