About Moonshots Capital
Moonshots Capital has been backing early-stage technology companies since 2004, on a single conviction: leadership is what separates the companies that make it from the ones that don't. We look for founders who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in their past such as military-trained or trial-by-fire repeat entrepreneurs — people who can move others to action, earn trust fast, and plan without a map — and when we see those traits, we invest with conviction. To date: 133 investments, 33 exits, 20 unicorns.
The firm was founded by Kelly Perdew and Craig Cummings, both West Point graduates and former Army Officers. Across the team we've started and operated 15 businesses of our own, and we put that experience and our network to work for the founders we back long after the wire clears. We work out of Austin and Los Angeles. Candidates preferred in these two locations.
We're hiring a Marketing Associate, reporting to our Head of Platform & Content, to own our brand, content, and event presence end-to-end. This is a chance to shape how Moonshots shows up in the world — the newsletter, the social presence, the flagship annual event — with the trust and autonomy to make judgment calls independently and put your own stamp on the work.
Role Overview
Four areas sit under this role: content and social, events, founder support, and AI.
The first is content and social. You'll run all three company channels — LinkedIn, X, and Instagram — and write, edit, and schedule the newsletter. You'll keep a content calendar built out in advance rather than assembled the day of, produce original work from our existing photo and video collateral, keep the website current, and build the brand derivatives the firm needs as it goes: Canva graphics, one-pagers, social templates. You'll also report on how it all performs and bring us proposals based on what the data actually shows.
Second, events. You'll hold a major ownership stake in the AGM, our flagship annual event, from the earliest planning through the post-event content rollout — plus the dinners and smaller gatherings we run through the year. Over time we want you visible in the venture communities we're part of, building relationships of your own there and representing Moonshots at the events worth showing up to.
Third, founder media and content support. Supporting the Head of Platform & Content, you'll surface founder stories, announcements, and wins across our channels, develop outreach and source press and media opportunities for our founders and GPs, and contribute to our broader portfolio support work — founder-facing resources, playbooks, network access, quarterly reporting, and investment theses.
The fourth is AI. It's part of our DNA here — we use and build with it religiously across the firm — and this role is the chance to lead that on the marketing side. You'll build and improve AI-driven workflows for content creation, social distribution, newsletter production, and research, then harden them into infrastructure the function runs on.
We're a small team, which means real impact and real visibility, and it means marketing here moves in real time.
What Success Looks Like
- Content Rhythm: A dependable publishing cadence — newsletter, social, and web — scheduled in advance, running without reminders, and growing reach and engagement over time.
- Ownership & Execution: Projects delivered end-to-end at a standard that's ready for senior stakeholders without a pass from anyone else.
- AI-First Workflows: Concrete evidence that content, distribution, and research work is faster and better because of the tools and processes you've built and use daily.
- Founder Support: Founder stories, announcements, and wins are getting real visibility across our channels, and media and content requests move quickly once they come in.
- Growth & Analytics: Reporting that tells us what's actually working, paired with a standing point of view on what we should try next.
- Community Presence: A growing, genuine presence for Moonshots — and for you — inside the venture communities we're part of.
Qualifications
- Experience: 2–4+ years in marketing, communications, or content, ideally including a startup, VC/PE fund, or agency where you had real ownership over a brand or content function.
- Writing: This role is writing-heavy, and writing excellence independent of AI is expected. You write with narrative flow and clear transitions, you know where information belongs — chronological ordering, placement logic, tone — and you link your sources every time.
- AI Fluency: You already use AI tools daily in your own workflow and can point to specific instances where they genuinely improved or accelerated your content, research, or reporting work. You want to build the next set of them: content generators, reporting dashboards, internal assistants.
- Ownership & Managing Up: You may be earlier in your career, but you learn fast and carry the maturity to run your own workload and manage your manager's expectations. You send proactive, frequent updates and you show up to check-ins with an agenda.
- Project Management: You hold several workstreams at once — recurring and ad hoc — prioritize them sensibly, and hit your dates. You're quick, you're fine with ambiguity, and you plan far enough ahead to work well across time zones on a distributed team.
- Data Instinct: You track how content and social are performing, bring the insights back to the team, and always have a view on what to test differently.
- Attention to Detail: Your work is accurate and thorough. You catch the errors before they go out.
- Design Sense: A strong visual eye and reliable instincts for what reads as polished and professional.
- High EQ: You take feedback and apply it broadly rather than narrowly, and you build lasting fixes for recurring problems. On a small team you'll jump in wherever needed — no task too small.
- Tools: Canva or Adobe, newsletter and email platforms, social schedulers, CRM, CMS.
- Nice to have: An existing presence or relationships in the VC/startup ecosystem; military veteran and/or military familiarity; experience supporting or running a flagship annual event (conference, summit, LP or investor day); prior time inside a marketing function.
