RR

Red River West

RRW invests in outstanding European Tech companies. We promote their international take-off by providing significant financial firepower and game changing hands-on support in Europe & the US. Backing EU talents in the US Red River West was created to bring active support to outstanding European Tech Companies that have something unique to bring to the US market and transform them into US and Global successes. Within the team, we all share a track record of building and backing start-ups which became global leaders through EU to US expansion. We see our mission of backing European talents into US and Global successes as of strong impact. Europe is indeed home to a talented, driven pool of highly educated engineers and creative entrepreneurs. But the unfamiliarity with the US market means that too many promising European start-ups do not realize their full potential. US success doesn’t just mean bigger scale and more capital: translating Europe-based talent into US success requires expertise, commitment, and a deep understanding of the different business cultures. Narrow, hands-on portfolio strategy In the way we operate as investors and partners, we fully align with the success of the entrepreneurs we back. We have indeed a narrow portfolio strategy : we invest in only circa 10 companies per fund. It makes it possible for our team to dedicate plenty of time to the success of each entrepreneurs and truly provide game-changing hands-on support on both continents. This approach is really unique in VC and those differentiated foundations have been driving and fuelling our operating and ESG approach since day 1. Real-world impact We see our mission of backing European talents into US and Global successes as of strong impact by design. Europe is indeed home to talented and driven pool of top engineers and creative entrepreneurs, but they too often miss the familiarity needed with the US to scale globally. Additionally, we believe the Tech segments & models we invest in present huge opportunities to serve ESG global concerns, therefore investing in founders that care about their impact is one of our 5 core investment criteria. We have integrated environmental, social and governance best practices in numerous aspects of our own organization, including our proprietary sourcing platform. Bringing support on three ESG pillars Our latest fund RRW II Growth is classified under Article 8 of SFDR regulation, as a financial product that promotes, among other things, environmental or social characteristics. We decided to focus our efforts on three ESG subjects: Ethical Technology People Well-being Carbon Reduction We are convinced that those challenges fully align with our performance as a leading EU to US Tech investor; and this is our differentiated narrow portfolio strategy and operating DNA that allows us to act as dedicated and impactful partners on those three ESG pillars.

Norrsken VC is one of Europe’s leading and largest impact focused early-stage VC funds. We were born out of Norrsken Foundation – a non-profit foundation founded in 2016 by Niklas Adalberth, co-founder of Klarna, with the belief that entrepreneurs building rapidly scalable businesses are our best bet to solving the hardest and biggest problems of our time. Norrsken VC operates independently, but shares the same values and mission with the Norrsken Foundation - we want to enable the next impact unicorn – a company that has a positive effect on one billion lives. When you become part of Norrsken VC - you join Europe’s largest ecosystem for impact tech entrepreneurs. We invest in highly motivated people whose innate drive is to create a positive impact. Partnering up with us means, amongst many things, that you’ll receive support from educated and experienced people, a wide-span network, along with a community of like-minded people. We’ve built unicorns and babycorns and invested in early-stage start-ups for decades. Now we spend our time helping up-and-coming visionaries reach our unified goals to build a more sustainable now.

Significant

With over two decades of Australian investment in building capability in research and universities, Australia now enjoys some of the most extraordinary talent and globally leading minds. This talent is creating knowledge and has the capacity of solving some of the big problems of our time but if we can’t take this know-how and intellect into the world, then this brilliance is lost and the opportunity we have will remain just that – an opportunity. As business builders and investors, Significant has been taking up this challenge for nearly two decades. Working in collaboration with universities, researchers and state governments, we, as a collective group have a track record in translating this knowledge bank into technology, into products, into services and ultimately into businesses that: Have become global companies Re-shaped markets Solved sustainability problems Created jobs and New career pathways for Australians Significant has the capacity to create high value niche modern manufacturing industries and exports for Australia and are extremely proud of their achievements. Significant leads by example to show that Australia can commercialise its inventions, that sustainable globally competitive businesses can be created in Australia, and that early-stage investment can create immense value for investors, demonstrating that through action Significant is able to attract more capital to invest in this important space and is be able to shift the mindset (read the AFR article) that Australia is great at innovation but not at execution. Backing Australia Our vision is a country that backs its researchers for the intellectual capital advantage they provide. Our mission is to back this talent, entrepreneurs and innovators to take these ideas and concepts to the world and create its own self-funding eco-system that results in the formation of new industries. Through our 4-way all-encompassing unique eco-system, our university investor partners provide us with access to the ‘very earliest’ investment opportunities possible, opening the door to concepts, ideas and innovations well before other venture capital funds. Our investment approach We invest in applied technologies that address high-impact global niche markets and will bring about social, environmental or economic change. Every potential investment must have a pathway to being a sustainable business and contributing impact to the UN Sustainable Development Goals either through the technology or through their business model. We look for technologies that provide a market advantage that is hard to replicate. They will have emerged either from researchers who have had long well-funded R&D cycles or innovators who have deep domain specialisation in an industry and so know their market problem exceptionally well. We are sector agnostic driven by the thematics that arise from the core capabilities of our partner universities and the innovations we uncover. The accelerators Strong market-fit and early industry engagement are imperative. We seek to accelerate the path to market dramatically by sourcing early adopters to validate the market need and aim to achieve market traction within 12-24 months. Our ability to find these early adopters is a key part of Significant’s initial due diligence.

EU

EIT Urban Mobility

Founded in 2019 as an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, EIT Urban Mobility is committed to accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility. We accelerate the sustainable transition by providing established businesses, startups, universities, research institutes and the public sector with access to markets, talent, funding and knowledge. We empower our partners to develop and deploy new solutions that address the mobility challenges European cities face. We work in partnership with over 250 organisations and collaborate with a wider network of more than 1,000 organisations across 35 countries. Our work supports our vision for sustainable and decarbonised urban mobility and more liveable urban spaces for all. Why we do it The world is in the midst of a climate emergency. Emissions need to be cut 55% by 2030, and net zero achieved by 2050 to meet the objectives of the European Green Deal. To make this happen we need to embrace a new paradigm that includes radically changing how we move and live in cities. Many innovative solutions to achieve sustainable urban mobility already exist, yet their widespread adoption is often slow. Our role as Europe’s leading network for transport innovation in cities is to catalyse uptake and accelerate this transition. We are committed to helping the EU accomplish its ambitious CO2 reduction goals. We align with EU priorities and contribute to key EU strategies and initiatives including the Green Deal, the Cities Mission for 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030, Horizon Europe and the New European Bauhaus. We also collaborate with our partners on local projects and initiatives and establish strong relationships with regional and city governments. What we do & how we do it We enable our community to speed up the transition to a decarbonised urban transport system through activities in four focus areas: match and connect, talent to business, innovations to market, and startups to scale. Match and connect We match and connect key stakeholders – including public sector, students, research institutes, universities, large enterprises, SMEs, startups, and NGOs – to accelerate the transformation of the mobility sector across all our activities and geographies. Events such as Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress enable our partners to connect, share insights and learn about the latest trends. Through Horizon Lab we help partners access external funding and form consortia to bid on long-term, large-scale projects. Innovations to market We bring innovations to market by supporting partners to develop, deploy and commercialise mobility products and services. Our activities accelerate innovations’ time to market and further scale their impact in European cities. We facilitate connections between the public sector, research institutes, established companies, startups and SMEs to implement agile pilots in European cities where market-ready solutions are tested in real-life. These pilots have led to longer-term partnerships, growth for private sector partners, and viable solutions for cities. Talent to business We elevate talent to business by fostering entrepreneurship and upskilling practitioners for the urban mobility challenges of tomorrow. We offer several master’s programmes, a Doctoral Training Network, tailored courses for students and professionals, and numerous incubator programmes to nurture entrepreneurship. Additionally, we coordinate the EIT Campus, a one-stop shop for education resources produced by the EIT Community and supported by EIT and the European Commission. Startups to scale We grow startups to scale by providing access to funding, coaching, and concrete opportunities through our accelerator and scale-up programmes. We nurture entrepreneurs to create and scale new solutions by connecting them with a broader network of potential shareholders and customers. As an impact investor we support startups that show positive social and environmental impact, as well as strong financial return on investment. We provide startups with access to grants and equity investments, networking opportunities and training through partner-led programmes. Equity startups can also be matched with city members to facilitate partnerships, and priority is given to gender-balanced startups. In 2023, we were recognised as Europe’s most active investor in urban mobility startups.
