Launch NY

Launch NY is a nonprofit venture development organization and a U.S. Treasury-designated Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that provides seed capital and mentorship to early-stage, high-growth startups across Upstate New York. Its mandate combines investment with economic development: identifying, supporting and funding promising companies in a region stretching from Buffalo to Albany, with a stated focus on job and wealth creation in regional economies. As a CDFI, the organisation operates within a regulated framework oriented toward expanding access to capital in underserved markets.

Investment activity is concentrated at the seed stage and delivered through the InvestLocal financing programs, which provide early-stage funding to Upstate New York startups. Capital deployment is paired with hands-on, pro bono support: Entrepreneurs-in-Residence and a network of experts work with founders on business model development and investment readiness at no cost to the entrepreneur. Launch NY also connects companies with investors, service providers and regional partners as they scale.

Geographic reach covers 36 counties of Upstate New York, and the model is explicitly designed to expand access to startup resources in areas where early-stage capital is comparatively scarce. Sector focus is broad - the organisation backs startups across industries rather than a defined set of verticals - and its returns mandate is tied to regional economic outcomes as much as to portfolio performance.
