Injini

Injini is a Cape Town-based non-profit EdTech accelerator and think tank, founded in 2017, supporting education technology founders and organisations across sub-Saharan Africa through acceleration, convenings and research.

Injini is a Cape Town-based non-profit accelerator and research organisation focused on education technology in sub-Saharan Africa. Founded in 2017, it works with education innovators and organisations across the continent through three overlapping activities: startup acceleration, ecosystem development, and applied research. It is structured as a non-profit rather than a conventional venture fund, and its stated aim is the improvement of educational outcomes in African contexts.

Its operating programmes include an EdTech Acceleration Programme for startups building solutions for learners and educators in Africa; convenings and events that bring together founders, funders, policymakers and other education stakeholders; and localised research and insights intended to inform decisions across the education sector. It also maintains the African EdTech Map, a directory for discovering EdTech solutions and connecting with innovators on the continent, and runs initiatives focused on artificial intelligence in education.

Geographic scope spans Cape Town, sub-Saharan Africa and the wider continent. The organisation's stated position is that innovation and technology for African education should be developed in Africa for African contexts, with an emphasis on evidence-building, accessibility and relevance. Its work sits at the intersection of the education, EdTech, non-profit and startup acceleration sectors, and its convening role means it interacts with both capital providers and policymakers alongside founders.
