Idealab

Idealab is a technology incubator founded in 1996 and based in Pasadena, California. It develops and tests ideas for technology-driven businesses, then recruits teams, spins promising concepts into independent companies, and supports their growth. Idealab describes its model as testing multiple ideas in parallel and providing new companies with shared experience and resources while they establish their own management teams.

Since its founding, Idealab has incubated and participated in more than 150 companies across sectors including consumer internet and mobile, clean technology, education, automation and robotics, blockchain, enterprise software, and networking. Its portfolio history includes companies that went public or were acquired, including Overture, Citysearch, Picasa, Twilio, and Coinbase. Idealab’s stated purpose is to use entrepreneurship and technology to address significant problems and build companies whose products and services change how people think, live, and work.
