FootPrint Coalition
FootPrint Coalition, founded by Robert Downey Jr., invests in climate and sustainability technologies and runs media, storytelling and charitable grant programmes in environmental technology.
FootPrint Coalition is a climate and sustainability organization founded by Robert Downey Jr. that combines four activities: media and storytelling, science and technology work, strategic investment, and charitable grants. The stated aim of this combination is to accelerate adoption of technologies intended to support a sustainable future, on the premise that solutions require funding, public awareness and support for the underlying science.
The investment arm operates a portfolio of sustainability-focused companies. Sector coverage spans clean energy, mobility, food systems, energy efficiency and carbon reduction, as well as environmental technology more broadly. Alongside investing, the organization produces climate-tech media coverage and storytelling that highlights sustainability companies and the science behind climate solutions, and runs a grants programme supporting nonprofit and research efforts in environmental technology.
Governance and measurement are a visible part of the operating model: FootPrint Coalition emphasises transparency and accountability in measuring impact, and publishes an annual impact report covering its investment, storytelling and grantmaking activities. The three functions - media, investing and philanthropy - are presented as complementary rather than separate lines of work, so roles may touch more than one of them.
