Job Description
Flying Fish Ventures is seeking a dynamic Principal based in San Francisco to join our investment team. The ideal candidate has some exposure to venture and is looking to increase their impact by joining a growing firm. This is a partner-track role with a clear pathway to growing responsibility and leadership within the firm. Key elements of the role include:
• Deal sourcing – you will work your network to find the very best innovations in frontier models, AI infrastructure, and vertical AI applications.
• Community building – you thrive on making connections across the community of founders and other VCs. You enjoy going to events both real and virtual and have natural affinity for networking.
• Diligence and analysis – You are detail oriented and rigorous in performing customer interviews, technical evaluation, and market analysis to assure that the deals we conclude meet the standards that our investors expect of us. You will build conviction through rigorous competitive analysis and reference calls and present investment cases to the investment committee, which you will be part of.
• Portfolio company assistance – helping our portfolio companies access the vast expertise of our investor network, comprised of some of the most high-profile founders and executives across the tech and non-tech ecosystems. You will serve as a trusted advisor to founders on go-to-market strategy, recruiting, and fundraising milestones.
Ideal Candidate
You are someone who combines intellectual curiosity about AI with the relationship skills to earn the trust of world-class founders. You have developed a point of view on where AI is heading and maintain strong relationships across the founder and investor community.
• Enjoys working with company founders who are often highly technical
• Has experience building their professional network and draws energy from the process
• Bachelor’s degree required and ideally 5 years of postgrad experience
• Advanced degree (PhD, MBA) a plus
• Familiarity with modern AI/ML technologies (large language models, model deployment, data infrastructure) and ability to engage credibly with technical founders on architecture and product decisions
• Exposure to investing (private equity, investment banking, venture) preferred
• Strong verbal and written communications skills allowing the candidate to communicate with existing and prospective investors and industry partners
• Based in San Francisco with strong familiarity with the Bay Area’s AI and technology ecosystem
