Director, Fund Finance & Operations

EQUIAM is an investment firm managing funds focused on growth and late-stage technology companies. We systematically screen thousands of private companies, rigorously underwrite, then make high-conviction investments (often) through direct secondary transactions. Our LP base is 250+ family offices, UHNW investors, and institutional allocators.

We are looking for someone who is clever, relentless, and thrives when their role is evolving and growing.

We are a lean team. Nobody here works a narrow lane, and we would not know what to do with someone who wanted one.

The role

We are building EQUIAM into an agentic firm, where agents do the large majority of the work and people make every decision that matters. A year ago, an IC-ready memo here took three or four days to write. Today it takes less than one. This seat does the same for operations first, then for the rest of the firm. It reports directly to the CEO.

Day one looks like a classic fund operations seat. Since 2018, we have invested in 90+ companies and exited 40, and every one of those deals had to be papered, funded, closed, valued, and reported on, usually on someone else's deadline. You own that work, and a lot of it you will do yourself. The rest is split with our fund administrators, tax accountants, auditors, brokerage firms, transfer agents, and outside counsel. A big part of the job is knowing exactly which work belongs where. You set the calendar, hold everyone to deadlines, and catch whatever falls through the cracks.

Why this seat is interesting:

few roles at any firm can change both how it runs and what it costs to run. This one can. Every process you automate is one we can bring in-house, which means faster, more accurate operations and, over time, less work we pay outside providers to do. We have already built internal tools for fundraising, research, and portfolio monitoring. You will do the same for the support functions that hold the firm up.

What you will run

  • Deal execution for primary and secondary transactions: closing checklists, transfer documents, ROFR and issuer consents, funds flow, settlement, and position tracking through exit
  • Capital calls, distributions, and the monthly and quarterly close, with our fund administrators
  • LP reporting and the quarterly valuation process
  • The annual audit and tax cycle, including K-1s
  • The compliance calendar and regulatory filings, with outside counsel
  • LP onboarding, operational diligence, and the operations for new vehicles

What you will build

  • Map and measure the firm's workflows, starting with fund operations, so every improvement has a before and an after
  • Replace the manual ones with agentic workflows, with a human checkpoint wherever money or LP data moves
  • Bring work in-house where our own systems do it better than an outside provider
  • Turn what you build into tools the whole team uses

As our own systems take over, the job becomes less about managing providers and more about running and improving what we have built. The best outcome for this hire is a promotion to the C-suite.

What we are looking for

  • 5+ years in deal execution (investment banking, private equity, or secondaries) or operations and fund finance (asset manager, fund administrator, or custodian)
  • You have closed transactions and run fund operations yourself, and you know what breaks: the missing consent, the funds flow that does not tie, the capital account the administrator has to restate
  • You understand private fund economics: waterfalls, fees, carry, capital accounts, and fair value for private company positions
  • You care about getting it right. One wrong capital account statement costs us more trust than a year of good ones earns
  • Your Claude Code or Codex setup is the kind other builders ask to copy, and you can show us something you shipped.
  • A plus: direct secondaries or SPVs; compliance at an SEC-registered adviser; a computer science or engineering background; a CFA or CPA

Compensation

  • Base salary: $175k to $225k
  • Annual bonus
  • Equity grant which entitles you to fund carry
  • Health insurance and benefits
