About Clean Growth Fund
Clean Growth Fund is a venture capital firm backing innovative climate tech companies. We have two funds. Our first fund has built a portfolio of 19 companies commercialising innovations across the power, transport, industry, buildings, circular economy and agrifood sectors. Our second fund has made 4 investments today and is actively investing. We invest primarily at Series A, with the aim of building a balanced portfolio of hardware, software and business model innovations.
Our investor base brings together public and private capital, including the UK government's Department for Energy Security & Net Zero, CCLA Investment Management, nine UK local government pension funds, Aviva and Queen's College Cambridge.
We also benefit from investment advisory services and incubation support from Carbon Limiting Technologies, a specialist consultancy supporting innovators, corporates, investors and the public sector.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Fund Accountant to join our finance team in London. This is a broad, hands-on role with real ownership from day one: you will work across two funds and the management company, see the full quarterly cycle end to end, and deal directly with our institutional LPs, auditors and portfolio companies.
Because we are a small team, this role offers exposure that would typically be split across several people in a larger organisation. You will report directly to the CFO and have a clear path to develop technical depth across fund accounting, investor reporting, valuations and regulatory compliance. It suits someone who wants to build a career in venture capital fund operations rather than stay in a narrow reporting function.
Duties and responsibilities
Fund accounting and reporting
• Maintaining the general ledger and preparing periodic financial statements for the venture capital funds and management entities.
• Reconciling bank accounts, investment activity and fund expenses.
• Developing and managing budgeting and forecasting processes to support financial planning.
Investor operations
• Assisting in capital call and distribution processes, including investor allocations and notices.
• Preparing quarterly and annual investor reports, including waterfall calculations and performance metrics (NAV, TVPI, DPI, IRR).
• Responding to LP queries, audit confirmations and bespoke reporting requests.
Valuations and portfolio
• Tracking portfolio company valuations in line with IPEV guidelines and updating internal systems accordingly.
• Collaborating with the investment team to understand deal structures, cap tables and fund flows.
Audit, tax and regulatory
• Supporting audit and tax preparation by coordinating with external auditors and tax advisers.
• Ensuring compliance with fund agreements, accounting standards and regulatory requirements, including preparing FCA returns.
• Assisting in onboarding new funds and investors, including setting up accounting systems and processes.
General
• Assisting with administrative tasks as needed. We are a small team and everyone lends a hand where it is useful.
What we are looking for
Essential
• 2 to 4 years of relevant fund accounting experience.
• Experience gained in house at a venture capital or private equity firm, or at a fund administrator. Candidates from the audit or fund services practice of a top five accountancy firm will also be considered.
• Strong understanding of partnership accounting and fund structures.
• Excellent Excel skills, with strong analytical and communication abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• A positive, flexible and proactive can-do attitude.
• Candidates must have the right to work in the UK. We are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Desirable
• Part qualified or qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or a relevant degree. We are equally interested in candidates who have built their technical grounding on the job.
• Working knowledge of Xero (or a comparable cloud accounting platform).
• Exposure to FCA regulatory reporting.
• Experience with a portfolio monitoring platform such as Vestberry.
Who will do well here
We are a small, collaborative team working on something that matters. We are looking for someone who is driven, takes ownership of their work, rolls up their sleeves when the team needs it, communicates clearly with people outside finance, and is genuinely interested in the climate transition we are financing.
