Canonical
Canonical invests at pre-seed in technical founders building frontier infrastructure.
Canonical is a San Francisco-based early-stage venture firm investing in foundational infrastructure for a post-AGI world. It writes first checks of $500,000 to $1.5 million to deeply technical founders, often before a product, pitch deck, or company exists. The firm describes its approach as partnering with founders from day zero and helping them build transformative systems and infrastructure.
Canonical’s investment thesis spans physical AI and robotics; silicon and quantum computing; open infrastructure; and frontier systems. Its areas of interest include AI compute and training, decentralized networks, verifiable AI, agent protocols, programmable money, and systems for operating safely in challenging physical environments. The firm also builds free interactive tools for founders, general partners, and limited partners, including tools for modeling dilution, fund construction, and capital calls. Its team includes founder and Managing Partner Anand Iyer and Partner Anthony Avedissian.
