British Columbia Investment Management Corporation

BCI is an institutional asset manager investing British Columbia public sector capital across public and private markets, including direct venture and growth investments in technology companies.

British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is one of Canada's largest institutional investors and asset managers, providing investment management services for British Columbia's public sector pension plans and other institutional clients. Established in 2000 by the provincial government, it reported $295 billion in gross assets under management as of March 31, 2025, across more than 32 public sector and institutional clients. Within its private markets allocation, BCI makes direct venture and growth investments in technology companies alongside its activity in private equity, infrastructure and renewable resources, and real estate.

The firm manages approximately 85% of its assets in-house, with investment teams operating as an active, long-term investor rather than relying predominantly on external managers. Portfolio construction spans public equities, fixed income, private equity, infrastructure and renewable resources, and real estate, diversified globally. Environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors are integrated into all investment decisions, and the firm describes its mandate as securing sustainable returns for its clients.

BCI is headquartered in Victoria, British Columbia, with additional offices in Vancouver, New York City, London and Mumbai. The organisation was established by the provincial government to secure the financial futures of British Columbia's public sector, and reports commitments to supporting Indigenous and community programs alongside its investment activities.
