BNP Paribas Développement

BNP Paribas Développement invests its own capital as a minority shareholder in French SMEs, mid-sized companies and high-potential startups, providing evergreen patient capital for growth, succession and strategic transitions.

BNP Paribas Développement is an autonomous subsidiary of BNP Paribas that invests its own capital directly, rather than through a time-limited fund. The vehicle takes minority equity positions in profitable small and mid-sized businesses, intermediate-sized companies (ETI) and high-potential startups, with the stated aim of supporting long-term growth, succession and business continuity. Because it commits proprietary funds, it operates as a stable, long-term shareholder rather than one subject to a fixed investment period.

Its structure is evergreen, allowing reinvestment over extended horizons and accompaniment through transitions including digitalisation, international expansion and the strengthening of environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments. Investments are generalist and multi-sectoral, typically ranging from €1 million to €20 million. A venture strand has backed high-potential startups developing new technologies or new uses since 2016. The firm reports more than 38 years of investing experience and a portfolio of more than 600 companies, with teams operating throughout France.

The investment remit spans three distinct company profiles: small and mid-sized businesses, intermediate-sized companies, and technology-led startups. Beyond capital, the mandate includes supporting the resilience of local economic ecosystems, employment and the succession of family and owner-managed businesses. Sector focus is deliberately broad; the common threads are profitability or high growth potential, minority participation, and an orientation towards patient capital - investment held over extended periods with reinvestment capacity.
