BKR Capital

BKR Capital is a Black-led venture capital firm founded in 2021 and self-described as Canada's first institutionally backed Black-led VC firm. It makes early, transformational investments at the pre-seed and seed stages in technology and technology-enabled companies. Investment criteria centre on strong teams, demonstrated product-market fit and large addressable markets, with a requirement that at least one Black founder sits in each portfolio company's leadership. The firm also looks for businesses addressing unmet needs in diverse communities.

Geographically, the firm expects most portfolio companies to be based in Canada, with a portion based globally. Beyond capital, BKR Capital positions itself as a strategic partner working alongside founders post-investment, and it is active in broader ecosystem building - including efforts to foster a more inclusive venture environment and to help train a wider generation of Black investment professionals.

The firm's mandate sits at the intersection of early-stage technology investing and representation in venture capital: improving access to venture funding for promising Black founders while targeting commercially compelling pre-seed and seed opportunities.
