Better Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2011 that leads and co-leads pre-seed and seed rounds in mission-driven companies applying breakthrough science and technology to social and environmental challenges. The firm writes initial cheques of $500,000 to $1m, with a preference for B2B businesses, and takes lead or co-lead positions at the point of formation-stage backing.

Investment activity concentrates on four technical domains: AI and machine learning, software, materials science and biotechnology. Sector theses span sustainable industry, human health, the future of work and B2B solutions - a mandate that, taken together, treats advances in science and technology as the primary lever for outcomes affecting people and the planet.

The firm is a Certified B Corporation and describes its approach as venture capital for profit and purpose, reporting on social and environmental outcomes alongside financial returns. Founding partners Wes Selke and Rick Moss work alongside their team, which has operated together since 2011.
